clean simple question. 2006 apex attck w/1.25 camoplast predator track.im a flatlander and ride some occasional powder, mostly ditches and trails. what is the best clutch kit? ulmer advertises a lot? want simple ,complete ,bolt in kit. no constant jacking around. any all help is appreciated.

Honestly if you dont want to mess with it... Stay stock.. Many will tell you stock is hard to beat on these sleds.. expecially if you do more than just trail ride..

if you are willing to tune it ... Ulmer will help you fine tune your kit to your liking and is a great guy to deal with..

What Brian just said. The stock clutching is awesome and with the type of riding you do a clutch kit won't be worth the coin. The only place I have seen a clutch kit out do stock is out of the hole. Mid range and top end you can't beat stock period!

But if you're in the mood to spend money here's a great deal on one of the best kits going:

Don't be so sure about your Period Mr

I'm running a Proline Kit and it rocks I'm running 162 down the center...this year I plan on added a few more to help with hole shot cause with this kit you need traction. How much faster is it than stock....couldn't tell you but man seat of the pants it sure makes the Attak feel unbeatable. Turns 10900 on the top side. I can literlay play with my buddies 2003 F7 (stock)... Hole shot mid range and top end...hes see nothing but my flap! Never raced the F7 stock....might have been the same story. Also same story with a 2003 RX1 ECP'd with 1.25" track and 192 studs.

I would have been happy to be even with either of those sleds since I've got a 136" track....to beat them is awesome.

BTW: I got my kit from Matt at Speed shop....I installed it per directions (except running tighter/higher wrap on 2nd spring). This kit is very trailable...I ride 95% fields and trails...ie engagement is low.

For what its worth. I'm sure every manufacture of kits have simalar story's.

The proline is great as well. the one Draw back to it is the tunability. The Ulmer Setup comes with a weight you can simply screw weight into. The proline needs to have rivits drilled out.

Dirk, we get your point bud...LOL

I wont run anything but stock at this point....just my 2 cents.

:-o I also run a proline clutch kit also, makes the sled feel like a 2 stroke on the trail very snappy.Bought my attak at the end of FEB. Put the kit in for the last couple of rides.Going to stud it this fall.Cant wait too ride it this winter.

2 other things you can do for just a few bucks and you want to play around

23 tooth top gear (std on Attaks & you wont lose any top end)
http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php? ... t=23t+gear

white secondary spring

+ I'd vote Ulmers because of the tunability, I hate to pound and drill rivits

Note: white spring not needed if you do a clutch kit
Tork you just posted a link to a message thats states from the factory rep vrs wettracer that it will suffer some top end loss, but they thought most would not mind the loss, wow i would mind that loss, and i think most people that buy this sled would, now i know from personal exsperiance that the 23 top that i have on my apex will be slower than the 24 on top and i can varify this with my gps,the advantage is in the trails and going thru the sloopy snow or soft snow,it gets there quicker, but also suffers at the pump, and that was only going down one tooth, yammi states a two tooth drop, wow they will lose 5-6 mph at least. Remember last years shoot out by AM snow on the lake between the 600cc machines? they ran the nytro up aganist other 600cc sleds and it lost bad on top compared to the others, than for poos and giggles they ran a stock vector hence the bigger top gear, wow now they were almost back in the hunt mph wise and it still acelerated almost as good as the nytro..

I got zero loss in top end, you will only get a loss if your clutches are shifting out all the way and I am pretty sure most naturally asperated Apex sleds do not as well.

The Nytro is a completely different animal.

I seem to remember walking away from a clutched Attak with my stock clutched Attak last year at the Muni ride :moon:
Even if you did continue to dial it in over the winter how much of a gain did you really get to justify several hundred dollars for a kit :ORC
