Hey Welt - I've got over 4,000 on my original slides and I'm not even thinking of changing them yet! I've never understood why we all seem to have such great differences in slider wear. I have my original ripsaw with 144 down the middle. I run it loose, and still use yamaha idler wheels too.

that is amazing that you have 4,000 mi. on your hyfax with the original wheels, you must have a diamond in the rough

If you ride in just fresh loose snow conditions, the slides will last forever. It's the hardpack, ice, and snow mixed with dirt, sand, gravel that kill the slides.

I just went over 3,000 miles on the original hyfax as well. They still look pretty good except for the curve towards the front is getting thin. My idler wheels did take a crap around 2,000 miles though. And--we are provided with plently of snirt/low snow for riding conditions around here. As mentioned before...my hyfax wore down quickly but have seemed to been wearing slowly ever since.

Just changed my hyfax for first time around 3000 miles and original bogies. I did peel apart bearing seals and clean a re pack with greese.

I ride in all kinds of snow conditions here in Maine - but mostly hard-packed. I have the spoked yamaha accessory wheels and run my track loose. As someone else said, the slides wear fast at first and then seem to hit a point where they stop wearing.

Thanks for all the info guys!! I bought the sled for $4500.00. It has 5600 miles, the heavier spring for monoshock, comes with cover and saddlebags.
I'm ok with that price. I have some tinkering to do this summer...exhaust donuts, drive bearing etc. but thats ok.
I looked at new ones, found 3 07 Apex GT's for $8550.00. Great price. I would have pulled the trigger but as I know the history of this one its a better buy for me at this time...

The dealers in Maine want a bundle for the left over Apex's. It's been the best riding in years and it is holding the prices up around there. One dealer was asking over 10 grand for an Attak GT he had on the floor last year. Just changed my slides at 4400 miles only because I had the track down to replace a broken driven axel. All the wheels are fine which is surprising given the conditions of previous years. I will say though that the slides need to be done every year on the RS venture ( one passenger mostly).

I think that's a good value. With these 4 stroke motors you really only need to worry about chassis wear items like bearings, bushings, and perhaps donuts. After that it will be like a new sled. 5600 miles on a 4 stroke is barely broken in!
Enjoy!

By now if it already hasnt had the Y-pipes and donuts replaced, it will.. right there is 700 in parts..
depends on whats been kept up on the sled,,,
Check all the boggy wheels bearings extensivly, check the chain case oil, drive shaft bearings, make sure the radiator does not have broken mounts, check the tunnel protectors to make sure they are not loose
Have any of the suspensoin bushings been replaced? ive redone my front and rear bushings all by 4300 miles.. as they were SHOT..
Hows the track? are the track clips worn?
What kind of mileage have you guys seen before the Y-pipe and donuts are shot??

With all I've been hearing, mine are going to get changed out after this season. My sled currently has 3000 miles, but I figure new donuts are cheap insurance against unnecessary damage.

I want $8500 for my 06 Attak with 4000 miles. After all, I paid $14000 and put at least $7000 into it for repairs...Any takers?

Budweiser you done well and made a good purchase !
You just bought a sled that should go 30,000 to 50,000 miles before motor would need a rebuild
with proper care !
Work on minor stuff like you say and you will have a very nice trail sled !
Your buddy must have needed the money or there is little resale in New York or he is not the smartest rock as he got the short end of that deal!
He took a hit of a $1.00 per mile for owning it 2 seasons or twice the norm for that time span !
Good for you as you could get that same amount next year and drive that sled for a whole year and have very little cost !
