I recently purchased a 2006 RS Venture and have not driven it because of no snow here in northern Ont,any way I have started it several times in the garage and when I do I always smell anti-freeze no visible leaks everything is bone dry and when I shut the machine off I hear gurgling noises which sound to be under the airbox? as it warms up the clutch seems to get noisier but maybe it is not the clutch any ideas as to what the problem is or if there is a problem?..........thanks.Glenn

How long are you letting it run?

Sitting in one place idling for too long & it will begin to overheat. The smell is probably coming from the cooling system expanding into the overflow tank, which is vented.

Clutch rattle on the 3cyl engines is totally normal. Don't worry about it.

I only let it run maybe 2 or 3 minutes would not the light come on if it were overheating, the heat exchangers under the running boards do not even start to warm up yet. why the gurgling sound when I shut it off. My son has an 03 RX1 and it makes no such noise and my clutch noise is 10 times louder than his RX1. And the RX1 does not smell of anti freeze.

The clutch noise is normal...don't worry about that.

Was the rad fluid recently topped up? A spill on the engine when it heats up takes a while for the smell to burn off.

I have not touched anything on the sled never added any anti freeze I bought it from a local ski-doo dealer who took it in on trade and just wanted to flip it so he would not store it over the summer the machine looks like brand new and they said at the dealer they went over it and it had 2 bent studs 3 bad idler wheel bearings and a noisy primary clutch which i told him was normal. that is all i know about it

There's a coolant hose (about 1" dia.) that runs across the top of the engine, under the rubber flap, if I'm pictureing it right. At any rate, check the aero clamps on that hose; if you have a leak at that point it's very hard to see , the antifreeze will leak out at the bottom of the hose and run right down the front of the engine, behind the carburetors. I had a leak at that point and just by accident I saw it puddling up on the engine cavity.
AS someone else pointed out, how full is the reservoir tank?
On my venture I can keep the reservoir a little less than half full (when cold) and that level works well; when hot it doesn't get so full that it relieves some through the vent hose. Have you checked the reservoir cap to make sure it's seated okay? If it's venting liquide you might see some antifreeze under the engine by the plastic cover that gets you to the oil filter, or take the cover off to check there.

Maybe an air bleed is necessary?

after you shut off the sled the chugging noise is your oil draining into the sump can. ;)! the clutch noise is normal for the 3 cylinder. its a yamaha just drive it
