I'm thinking about installing a set of 45 deg. sportech ultra hooks on the handlebars of my vector. Just wondering if anyone has done this and what I'm getting into before I go ahead and buy these things. From what I see, I'll need to cut out the rubber on the end of the grip to insert the hook. But what happens to the ridge on the end of the existing grips? If I cut the ridge off will I have a smooth transition from the face of the existing grip end to the new hooks. In other words, when I insert the new hook will it mate up flush with the end of the existing handlebar grip or the does the ridge remain there? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I also added hooks to my stock Vector bars. They were ok but I didn't like the transition from the stock grips to the hooks. I found the stock grips rather difficult to cut with any degree of accuracy, so removing the ridge might leave them ugly. Here's what I ended up doing:

It was well worth the price, which was under $100 including the bars, riser, and pad. I put my original handlebar pad on eBay and got a decent price for it so my total investment is probably closer to $75. This is the riser I used:

If you can find the upgrade bars at a dealer for $30, like I did, it's an easy swap.

Using the straighter Apex/ Nytro bar with a riser would be a lot nicer deal than the add on hooks IMHO. The only issue is I'm pretty sure that the service upgrade kit that is spoken about in that link is no longer available. I waited and waited for that but it never came in and Yamaha told me that is is gone. I have someone's old take off '06 bar on mine and yes, the warmers stink compared to the old style Vector grips. You should be able to get someone's take off bar from here for a good price which is what I did, then you can stay near mbw919's budget plan. Bear in mind that the grip height can only be raised 2" maximum over what it is now without replacing cables. With my setup due to the height, I had to replace cables and brake hose with Nytro stuff. I also spliced all of the wiring harnesses to lengthen them to get the plugs under the cowl, but if you use your Vector pad you won't have to worry about seeing the unsightly connectors.

I added the hooks to my Rage, and have the same problem with the ridge. I left the ridge on, and bought some good elec. tape (3M) and wrapped it real tight across thr ridge and on to the hook. I have very large hands, and actually like the ridge, seems to give me a little bit better grip.
