Wondering if anyone has experienced this one. It has happened twice on the wife's sled. Last year it happened to her, but I didn't realize it, just figured she didn't let off the gas and almost ran into the garage. She said she was off the gas, but it kept going. (New sled, I figured she didn't realize how touchy the throttle was).
Well, today, I was getting ready to put her sled away after a few hours of riding and it happened to me! Wheeled around toward the garage so I could back 'er in and I let off the throttle, but the thing kept going! Damn near hit the garage! I grabbed the brake and got things stopped. Looked at the dash and the yellow warning light was flashing (didn't get a count on how many flashes), then I thought I saw something momentarily display in the upper right of the dash, but it disappeared before I could make out what it was.
Wife said something strange happened after we gassed up about an hour earlier. She said as she thumbed the throttle, the engine reved, but in pulses and not enough to move the sled. I (not realizing there was an issue) waived for her to c'mon and she gassed it, light up the track and away we went.
Don't know if there is a way to review the error codes (flashes) w/o diagnostic equipment??
Though the TORS would have killed the engine if the throttle stuck??
Sled is bone stock.
Anyone have ideas. No way I'm letting her ride it like it is, what if it sticks at 60 mph??? Not good.

Geeeeez, not good. Maybe a stuck throttle cable? Did you tweak you cables ever or stretch the cables with a really, really tall riser? Your TORS is obviously not doing it's job also.
Brakes are crucial, obviously. Unless u'r sure you know what it is, I'd bring it to the dealership on this one.

No riser, stock handlebars.
I remember looking at the throttle lever (as the sled was 'going on it's own' and it had returned to the 'home position'. So yeah, TORS failed.
No codes display on the dash and she'll start right up.

when your wife said the engine reved in pulses and did not go, that was the tors kicking in. it limits the rpm to about 3000, less than engagement. definitly check for the problem and correct it. tors does not kill the engine, just limits the rpm. if you are unsure of the problem, have a dealer service it.

Ah, good info on the TORS limiting revs. When I waived her to 'cmon, she nailed the gas and it took off... Wonder why TORS allowed that?
It was really cold today, wonder if there was some freeze up somewhere, since both times it acted up today was after the sled had been shut off for a few minutes. Once for gas, then after the ride home, before putting away in the garage. Don't recall the conditions when this first happened last year.
As cold as it was today, there was a lot of powder hanging in the air behind my sled. Maybe some of that was injested under the hood, possilby sticking a cable?? That would be tough to duplicate at the dealer.

check freeplay in the throttle cable at the throttle bodies...also check the routing of the throttle cable..it could be hanging up on something and pulling...
the tors is controlled by the throttle block...with your left hand...hold the portion of the throttle away from the block and with your right hand slowly add throttle...with the space in the flipper at the top tors is activated...however it sounds as if tors isnt activated so...it is possible to have a broken return spring or maybe the cable was frozen part open?>

Had same problem on my 07 Attak last year - Turned out the throttle wasnt closing completely when released The throttle return springs were full of crap thanks to open trailering . Cleaned &lubed springs no problem since

Thanks for the replies.
When I get back home, I'll take a close look at the throttle cable and return springs. Maybe a clean and lube will fix the problem.

I had this happen last month and it was the throttle body cable not returning to home position (TORS) intermittently. Same issue as you described, sometimes it would take off, and sometimes it would only idle and not allow the sled to move forward. Check to make sure the throttle snaps back freely and that there is some play once it it all the way closed. As mentioned earlier the throttle body may have some corrosion building up and needs to be cleaned and lubricated. Towing on an open trailer will cause this and the salt will eat your APEX!!! ![Banghead :o| :o|](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/banghead.gif)
