Since it's the off season...I have had sometime to reflect on my sled, and what I like and don't like. I hope this may help some of you looking to purchase a yamaha four stroke..or some of the various aftermarket parts I have on mine.
First off...Here is what I have:
2007 Attak GT
Ulmer stage TWO clutch kit
replaceable bearing wheels
yamaheater
Curve Xs Skis.
The sled it's self....has been VERY GOOD...I had a crack in my left exhaust header, my yamaha dealer replaced it under warranty...I cracked the front arm on the skid...had it repaired locally (they also strenghtened it)...had no problems since.
The machine rides and handles very well on groomed trails, I am unstudded, and the orginal track is still on it...and looks very good with 12,400 miles on it...I think that's amazing. Those who are unfamiliar with the pull of the four cylinder 4 stroke will be amazed...this sled pulls so hard for so long...it simply amazes me...never had a sled with this much mid range to top end pull....and still averaged over 2,000 miles around 14.3 miles to the gallon. It is a heavy sled, and is not fun to dig out of snow banks, or deep powder...but I have run it through 2 feet of fresh fluff no problem...as long as you know where you are and don't stop...lol...like most four strokes (especially the older yamaha's)...it takes time to get used to the engine braking....and at first it can be rather annoying...but once you get used to it...it's really easy to control the sled, and you will rarely use the brakes....the sled also transfers weight forward upon deceleration...who causes some hunting and darting....unless you have dual runner skis, or dually's.
Ulmer Clutch Kit (stage 2)...may be the single BEST upgrade done to this sled....AWESOME!!! Made the sled faster, and quicker...in fact I can beat my buddy's apex (which has another companies clutch kit) by 6 sled lengths!!! Ulmer's product is top notch...I HIGHLY recomend his clutch kits. I have seen what it does with my own eyes...much better than stock.
Yamaheater's.....any pre 2010 yamaha that doesn't have these is crazy...they work awesome...in fact they will melt your gloves...my hands are never cold....love my yamaheater's!!
Curve XS ski's: They are a high quality product, that look very nice...but...I feel they are better for aggressive riders who run ditches or loose snow...I can not reccomend them to the average trail rider, as they do hunt and dart on certain conditions. They are definately better ski's than the stock ones...BUT...if you are an average trail rider or spend 70 percent of your time on trail...you would be better off with the stock skis, and dually's, or triple points and shim's. I have tried various suspension settings, had the local dealer check my tow out (according to curves specs)...and they still dart.
I don't hate them...but did swear alot last year on certain conditions..lol
Over all.....The Attak is a great machine with lots of power, I am very pleased with it. The only negatives can be the weight in certain conditions (deep snow)...and the mono shock suspension is not an agressive suspension for banging bumps...it's a very plush nice suspension for running groomed trails...if you like jumping driveways or ditch banging...don't buy an attak...it's a great groomed trail machine with excellent power, and good fuel economy. I reccomend running dually's or triple points on stock skis....and unless you are totally HARDCORE you will be pleased with it. Dually's do push in the corners (in certain conditions)..but there is very little darting.
