I have an 08 nytro and I'm trying to drop some weight this season.

My question is how important are the stock drop brackets to the support to the air frames?

I want to make new aluminum ones but idk how I would make them include the over hang to the running boards.

Anyone have some advice for me? What have you done for drop brackets? I think there is close to 6-7 pounds to lose here?

the airframes themselves actually add a little bit of weight but the loss of snow on the running boards makes it weigh less throughout the day. the drop brackets are not used to support the airframe runningboards but to support the suspension and tunnel from collapsing on its self.

OK Thats good to know.

So how important is that overhang onto the running boards? Is the tunnel that weak where that is an essential part to have?

As for air Frances addi g weight I figured they would. I had better boards but they are not fat man friendly at all they were thrashed by the end of the season so I wanted something that would last.

the instructions measurements give you a nice lip to attach the airframes to the tunnel, then you rivit them to the lip. airframes add a ton of strength. one of my buddies who is 300lbs was joking around with me about how stiff the boards were and didnt want to get off of them, not having running boards that flexed under his weight was a first for him.

So making a drop bracket and no including the over hang that the stock drop bracket has is probably not going to effect the strength of the air frames or the tunnel you dont think?

I dont know, I would think you would need the "overhang" of the drop brackets keep the rear suspension from folding in on itself inside the tunnel. some outward tension for lack of a better phrase.

Well I went with making my own drop brackets ant ended up dropping 8 pounds. They are not quite complete but I will post pics when I have them done. That weight just over 1 pound
