Looking at buying a 2009 RS Vector with 600 miles on it. Just wondered if there are any known issues I should look for before making my decision. I know Nytros had issues with subframes bending, I'm looking for known concerns besides normal maintenance. Thanks!

Never heard of any issues like the Nytro.

My 08 has been bullet proof so far other than the known wear items like front end bushings and the rear bogies that came with Un-replacable bearings.

I updated my bogies with 2010's as they have replacable bearings in them.

You'll probably want a Yamaheater module for warm hands. Other than that just gas and go.

Vector

I have a 2010 vec and nytro. I was pleasantly surprised running the vector on few trips last winter. Yamaha has done a pretty good job refining that chasis. Definitely a nice sled to spend on long hauls.
GOod luck

Ideal trail sled.......perfect. No issues to my knowledge as a regular reader of TY, don't have a Vec myself..........but if I could find one with <1000 miles and used I would own it.

Yamadoo

Yamadoo

Not to hijack the thread but why must it have <1000 miles? IMO the engine isn't broke in till 1500-2000 miles. A well mainitained Vector with say 8000 miles is just as good as one with 1000 miles.....IMO

i'll second that, even 8000 miles is nothing for these motors,my 09 has 13000 miles and runs like day one

Other than a little rattle in the clutch it's a fantastic trail sled for the long haul. The rattle doesn't lead to anything more than just that.

I do believe the carbed 973 gets better fuel milage than the fuel injected by a little. The FI motor is great motor I would buy either one.My 06 venture gets great mileage 15 -20 it has 14000 miles on it

I have also heard that but don't know if it is really true or not?

I do remember reading when the new FI Vector's came out, that they expected about a 5 mile increase per gallon but I never did hear if that was indeed the case?

In one of the American Snowmobiler issues, they mentioned their 2012 got an average of 18.8 mpg, but in all honesty I think I also get that and maybe more with my carbed 08?

running my 07 Nytro with my buddy's 10 Vec last year on a trip I did better buy a couple $ per fill up, I was running harder than he did as well.

I can agree with Yamadoo. Yes these motors are built for the long haul but if I am buying used Its more about was it taken care of and regular maintenance done. Also just because the motor will last suspension and other issues may start to creep up esp if it was driven hard.

I'm going by memory, but I think it was 5% better fuel economy. An extra 5 miles per gallon would be like a 30% increase and that would be huge!

I couldn't remember the exact wording or what they were stating, but the 5% definitely sounds more like it now that I heard it again.
Thanks for clearing that up ;)!
