Trying to help my 70 yr old mother enjoy her Yamaha sleds. Rode with her last year and came to realize a few things. A softer clutch set up would help her so the sled was easier on engagement and didn't backshift so hard. Is there any one that makes a kit to help with this? Studding would help her confidence allot. Its a 09 std so what track and paddle depth would be on it? I just want to do something mild like 96. Do I need to get tunnel protectors? She has woodies dualies up front and it still darts in some conditions hoping the studs will take care of that but if there is something else I should look at set up wise or product wise please let me know. I appreciate any help. I need this sled to be smooth, straight and stable on ice and snow. TIA

- Bought a new 05 Vector which I still have
24K miles
The spring change mentioned above comes from barnofparts.com Travis will take good care of you.
Still darting with Doolies? Somethings wrong.......check ski alignment and the skis also likely need to be shimmed.
You really want her to enjoy riding, get her a 2012 or newer Vector with EPS! Effortless steering!
Studding? = track is a 1.25" lug height Camoplast Ripsaw. Put in 96 Woodys Signature Series studs down the middle. Personally I like SS studs. Use tall nuts on these longer studs.

Thanks for the advise on the clutch parts. I will call Travis today. The darting I believe is from to much ski pressure. Last season was the first time that I was able to look at these sleds for her. Her husband took care of them and didn't want my advise so I didn't offer any. He had a stroke and she almost quit riding. Last year I got them ready for her and she put on a few miles and then confided in me that she has never liked how they handle. (Previous sleds were 500 Indy Touring studded) So she is used to a sled that glides versus the on off sensation you get with the Vector. Hopefully the spring will help with that. I wish it had eps. I will align and shim and see how the balance is with the studs. She would ride every day if I had the time to take her.

Where do you live? A site Admin will ask you to put it in your profile (required) so you might as well do it. Wish you lived around here! I'd love to go riding with your Mom!
The spring will help the engagement but not the bucking bronco feel. You might contact Allen Ulmer at Ulmer Racing (site sponsor) as he knows these clutches well and can probably recommend a setup to get you what you what Mom wants. Also try Schmidt Bros. Racing in Michigan 989-756-2150 . Chris (?) is also very good at this stuff. I have his Comfort Clutch setup on my 05 Vector. Doesn't help the bucking bronco feel though. IMO - you want the 4s engine to act more like a 2s when it's "unspooling"...as I call it.
The 09's had a front limiter strap right? Loosen up the limiter one hole. Also, make sure the front ski springs are set to the lightest they will go. Good setting is with the front end off the ground, tighten the adjuster nut just so the spring doesn't rattle.
The Doolies might make it too hard for her to turn regardless of where the ski pressure is set. You have to be the judge of her ability to turn the bars. Her sled will always be what it is.....it'll never turn as easy as the Polaris she had unless she gets a sled with EPS.
Heck - sell the Vector and get her whatever she feels comfortable with. At 70, she deserves whatever she feels the most comfortable on regardless of brand. 2s Polaris or Doo would be a better fit for her maybe?
And guys.....save the Snowtracker comments OK? We're talking about a 70 year old lady here.
