I just ordered Woody's 1.325 inch studs for my 2011 Apex. I called Woody's tech support and they said with that length I should have no issues whatsoever with damaging any of the components under the tunnel. They said that Yamaha makes a tunnel protector shim kit. Do any of you have that part number? He also said you could do it your self by drilling the rivets out and adding some washers and then re-riveting it with longer rivets.

I am not aware of Yamaha making a kit. I had Port Yamaha install their kit on mine. Might want to get a hold of them. So far not a single issue!

its not a kit so much as a fix if i remember correctly. they take it apart and do some welding.

Bingo!

There's a couple of other threads on this but Port Yamaha was selling the reinforced brackets last year with a welded piece on the back that keeps the original Yamaha brackets from compressing and moving the protectors closer to the vitals and allowing the studs to impact. I bought a set, came with the new rivets, easy to install but must drop at least the back of the skid to get access to the forward brackets. Running any length stud on the '11 on up Apex is risky without the fix.

So to take the protectors out from the tunnel do i just need to remove the seat and unbolt the protectors? Or does the tank also need to be removed? Do i just unbolt the 2 bolts in the trunk to remove the seat or are there other items that meed to be removed? Also, if i drop the rear part of the skid down to make room to get inside the tunnel do i just remove the top rear set of bolts that hold the skid to the tunnel? Or do i need to undo the limitr straps and/or transfer rod first?
Thanks.
