Has anyone out there considered making their own MTX? I am not a fan at all of the Nytro...and not that I am ready to upgrade yet, just curious. I think the new Apex with a 3 X 16 X 162/174 Camo extreme, Pro Mtn Air skid, Yamacharger and some other light weight goodies would be the cats hiny.

A yamacharger would be a waist at high altitude. You wouldn't be making any boost. Most turbos loose 2lbs of boost between sea levael and 10,000ft unless the they have a compensator and the yamacharger only makes 2lbs total.

my 06 was keepin up with the cats... but then i had a minor problem with a frozen wind drift an flipped the sled upside down pinning the throttle balls to the wall and spun a crank bearing an messed up the case a lil its a 3500 fit for a new motor so bought a 07 all stock put a undertunnel exhaust boss seat deleted the headlight built a custom windsheild and then ran stock suspension in it for the longest time an there is not a two stroke that would touch it!! im not a joking when i say this the sled absolutely rode like a turbo!! wheelied all the way up the hill doin 45 up vertical for bout 100 feet no slowing it down, it kept up with the turbos runnin 350 plus heres the difference they would do 60 an i was doin 35 up the hill thats still movin quick up vertical however the apex doesnt handle worth a #*$&@ cuz its not balanced u have to get the tunnel as low to the ground as u can, put a decent tack.... get rid of the pathetic maverick build light weight drop brackets and then a light weight TRANSFERABLE suspension and u my friend have a sled that the m1000 wont touch! this is a true story my friend ben last year had his stock rx-1 and out climbed a turbo m8 last year at kachess it was unbelieveable! an the apex doesnt even slow down especially with the 2011 havein 163 horsepower! i want that motor so bad in my chassis i have the perfect setup in my 06

not sure if I buy that....

I Had the same comment from very reliable source about the yama charger not doing well at altitude.

When the RPM drops at altitude so does boost as it is direct drive.

So your power loss is compounded at altitude.

Theoretically if you can adjust the clutching to get RPM back you will still make more power.

Coming from a very experienced racer and tuner it was not worth it.

Just the bit I know and why I did not get one.

I have one buddy that was telling me today he stumbled across some intel that MPI was putting out a low boost turbo (not SC) for the Apex to bring it up to 180 horse but was only available through Yamaha Canada. I had another buddy, whose family owns several yamaha dealerships in South Dakota, tell me there they had info there were some low boost turbos that had been tested by Yamaha sitting on some shelves in warehouse somewhere in Minnesota (or Michigan or somewhere back there) but Yamaha wasn't satisified with the output so it scrapped the program....anyone know anything about this?
