Hey guys I have a 2011 nytro xtx, I bought it brand new in march, before the snow melted I got 564 miles on it. In that time my clutches have started to rattle, I noticed alot of bet dust and on the last ride I noticed when I was just tooling around the yard that the belt was actually smoking. Its under warrenty so I have gone against my normal self and havent touched it yet because I want yamaha to fix it if there is something wrong thats beyond what I can fix. Im wondering if anyone has any info about this and could give me some insight on what to expect to hear from the dealer?

Im 20 years old and im a die hard yamaha guy, and between me and my dad we have had so many yamies that I couldnt even think of them all, including a warrior with over 11,000 miles and a 94 vmax-4 with over 13,000 miles that is currently running 117mph in a 1/4 mile on asphalt bone stock, and the clutches are still quiet on those sleds, as far as the belt goes we have never had the problem I am having with this nytro. Everything else about this nytro is awesome, I love it, so I hope you guys can offer a peice of advice and maybe shed alittle good news on the subject for me. Thanks!!

Sounds like an alignment issue for the belt burning...I agree with letting the dealer figure it out. Maybe that's were the rattle is coming from as well. Good luck with your sweet sled!

The clutch rattle is an old topic. It usually dissapears as soon as throttle is increased. This is due to the bolts for the rollers sliding. A fix that I used used was to use a phenalic washer under each of the nuts. It immediately solved the issue. As for the belt issue it does sound like track tension or an alignment problem (or your park brake is on LOL) Good luck!

^not always from the bolts. I spent a solid 4-5 hours last year trying to eliminate my rattle. It turned out my rattle is coming from the stub shaft they use for the clutch....i hope to look into it more this winter for a fix.

I agree with above posters that the clutch rattle is just a noise that is a characteristic of the 4 stroke Yamahas. I would not worry about the noise as I have also wasted many hours on trying to eliminate it. I am surprised that your warrior does not have some of the same clutch noise. As for the belt issue, the excess belt dust in the clutch compartment is normal on the nytro. The nytro is hard on belts for various reasons. One post mentioned alignment being off. I highly doubt that since this would mean the chassis is bent. You said the belt was smoking when you were "tooling" around. I would bet that this smoking issue was caused by low rpm ( just above engagement ) throttle application to get slow speed ( like loading on a trailer or driving through a tight area). This is normal on the nytro, it does not like to go slow! It will not put around at slow speeds without belt slippage. Did you actually see smoke? Or did you just smell the belt? I would bet there is nothing wrong

Rattle

I do not believe the 4 cyl motor has the same rattle as the 3 cyl motor.

I had an 2004 RX1 which had the same rattle. As soon as I increased throtle it would dissapear. So I'm not sure that this is prone to just the triples.

Rattle is coming from the stub shaft inside the engine. Its splined onto the crank and at low speeds it rattles. Still want to try a damper on the clutch cover to try a fix, but that's for another day.

BTW, my experience is that Nytro's are NOT hard on belts....quite the contrary. They may be heavy sleds but the clutching is spot on and they have are very good on belt wear. Maybe others can chime in on their experiences, but if you have excessive belt wear after 800 miles, I might get the alignment checked. I must have 3000Km's on my XTX belt and its still looking good.

OTM

The nytro i rode before i owned my current one (same year and model 09 xtx) both have same clutch rattle noise. Just one of those things i have gotten used to. Kinda hard to accept at first. As far a belt wear goes i put 5600 miles on the previous nytro untill it blew up going across a lake at about 85 #$%&* . So its kind of hard to argue with that longevity.

I had 3300 km's on my original and the only reason I changed it was to go to a softer Dayco belt, to save my clutch faces!
