Went to Baraga last week and took my new xtx up there snow was ok but they were losing it fast! first off i am 277 pounds and have never rode a nytro but i have been riding since 11. got 600 miles on xtx and real mpg was 15.73-16.55 i calculated many times and was happy with results, machine was wicked powerfull although it had a hesitation from 30-45 if i slammed the throttel but it started going away with more miles, had new cr10ek in it so i dont know if they were causeing an issue with break in maybe? sled rides decent but man that rear suspention needs freed up i think i will buy the star kit, def needs new skis and my sliders lasted 600 miles and i may be able to squeeze a few more out but they are wasted so going to change them, sled imo does awsome in the deep stuff and going up hills we did some boondocking and i was suprized it did so well, need to get rid of heat under hood you can bake a cake in there dang, i will be adding vents, clutching at low speeds leaves a littel to be desired but it does pull way hard, over all i am satisfied, I will doing some improvments that i feel yamaha should be funding, but hey atleast i dont have to worry about my crank going or grinding my teeth with nerviousness every time i want to hold on to the fun flipper in fear of hearing ( SkiBOOOOOOOM!) i love sled and liked it even more with the more miles i put on it

Buy a 06 apex mountain torsion spring(1), trim it to the length of your stock spring, and maybe some Hy gear spacers, and your skid will be much better.
I replaced the rear idler mounts with doo zx style two bolt, because the stock ones just bend and don't support the weight, and also added a set by the rear shock. I machined the mounts by the front shock to run a 135mm wheel with a 6205 bearing, but now you can buy the excel 135 wheels that fit stock mount. With this set up, I'm only on my 3rd set of slides in 7000mi.

The Star Suspension kit is IMO will be the ultimate upgrade kit to improve quality of XTX skid. You can put any springs you want, upgrade your shocks and never achieve premium quality ride. Why? because of the friction and geometry design of the skid. It simply does not allow for a comfort zone the other skids provide. If I keep my XTX this will be a must mod...

I bought a new 11 xtx this year and am very happy with handling, egro, engine performance but the rear ride leaves a bit to be desired. I'm 220 without gear and had to set spring to S and compression to full S to get a decent ride over all size bumps up to 30mph. Above 30 the ride quality really goes down hill. You just don't feel the supsension working thru its travel. Now, with that being said, on my last ride I huge ice chunk fell from the tunnel and the ride over bumps at higher speeds improved some actually.
The dealer is going to remove a couple of shims in the rear shock and put spring on M. Will see how that goes.
Star kit makes sense. Might be worth a try next season. Seems like the Apex XTX guys aren't complaining about the rear ride so I'm wondering what the valve specs are. That may be worth a try before spending the $$$ on the Star kit.
