I think not.
TUNED FOR MORE TOP-END PERFORMANCE:
The new Apex engine received many modifications to improve power output and control, including a new air-box with modified intake funnels, revised intake cam timing, and new 38mmm 4-into-1 titanium exhaust with EXUP. These changes do increase peak power, but also dramatically improve throttle response and low-to-midrange torque.
REVISED INTAKE VALVE TIMING:
We changed the lift angle of the intake valves from 104° to 109° increasing the overlap of the intake/exhaust valves which when combined with EXUP results in more power and a smoother power delivery.
NEW PISTONS AND OIL RINGS:
Lightweight forged aluminum pistons with a new dome shape for uniform combustion are very strong, yet lightweight, and reduce vibration while running quieter.
ISC (IDLE SPEED CONTROL):
ISC ensures stable idle right after starting. Not only does it improve starting and idling stability, it also controls changes in idling speed to facilitate warm-up, with improved starting and idling performance at higher altitudes. ISC also incorporates EBRS = Engine Braking Reduction System.
KNOCK-SENSOR:
Addition of a knock sensor adjusts the ignition timing to prevent irregular combustion. If lower octane fuel is used the ignition timing will automatically compensate by retarding the ignition timing to prevent knocking, to ensure consistent and reliable engine performance.
NEW INTAKE FUNNELS & IMPROVED INTAKE TRACT:
The shape and length of air funnels, along with the air cleaner have been redesigned to work in conjunction with EXUP for superior performance.
38MM TITANIUM 4-INTO-1 EXHAUST PIPES FOR MORE PERFORMANCE:
New 38mm titanium exhaust pipes form a 4-into-1 unit, tuned for improved power development at higher rpm. Larger diameter tubing combined with EXUP improves the efficiency of pressure waves from each cylinder that resonate inside the exhaust pipes, thereby improving performance in the medium and high rpm ranges. The new design uses shorter diffuser and moves the muffler further forward contributing to better mass centralization.
So, if the gains are so significant why not advertise HP? I personally like to see HP vs. weight under specification listings and Yami chooses not reveal either, why?

I agree lets see some power and weight numbers. I imagine they don't state power or weight numbers because they want you to focus on the positives of there sales pitch.

If you look back to the pitch when they improved on the rx1 motor,hp and weight reduction were in the fore front. I would plunk down 2k on a yamacharger before i come up with 10 large to move up from my 06 that is finally perfect for me.
Spinnin ain't winnin--if your hookin you cookin>>>>STOCK on STOCK the NEW 2011 APEX should beat the "OLD" APEX.. I'm sure YAMAHA made sure it would happen.they have more money$$ and time then we do..making the SPORTS more RAD/FUN.it just can't be SLOWER..imo.
This is likely a dumb question-- but --on the Demo rides ,what grade of gasoline is used?I noticed the lables states "Premium Gas 91 oct."Does it make any more horsepower with premium gas over regular gas? When these "tests" runs were made what gas were they using? If it doesn't matter ,why put the lables on the tanks?

That does not sound good "Premium Gas 91 oct." for the 2011. 2006-2010 Apex runs on 87 oct gas. Is this true? Premium Gas 91 oct gas getting hard to find.

My local dealer owner had demo rides for himself and other local owners this past weds.
He doesnt bullshit around when he talks. He said this. "it was refined, smoother, definitely had less pull then the previous models"
He is the dealer owner, and its only employee, and also works on all sleds. He said he set it up to his liking/riding style and still found the same.
He sad "basically just a refined upgrade" he also said yamaha wants him to take in 15 new apexs, he said he thought they were nuts as he sells 10 times more nytros then the new apex will sell. He liked the sled alot, but didnt give me any impression it was much different then the previous models, just alot of refinements.
sounds to me yamaha took all the complaints and made a great sled we all love with all the upgrades we wanted. Good deal to me. I just won't spend 15k on it, lol! But at least they did what everyone asked.

Im sticking with my, soon to be yamacharged, 06 RTX for at least 2 maybe 3 more seasons...
Then... Im gunna take the yamacharger off it, sell the sled, and buy a left over or very lightly used 09 or 2010 and put my yamacharger on it... That should get me through the next 8 seasons or so...

Sounds like a plan. Not enough new to make me wanna put the €€ down for a ´11 sled.
