2014 Viper temperature sensor

Hello, my sled started acting up on the weekend, was riding and temp was fine then all of a sudden would just drop to very cold and sled would lag for a bit. I read that it could be the temp sensor so I picked it up today now I want to install it. Just wondering do I have to empty coolant or can I just swap it? Do I need to burp rad hoses after?
