2018 Sidewinder LTX-SE, 2019 Ski-Doo 900T Enduro (not as fun as Sidewinder)
I am just kicking the idea around...
I know of a 2016 Viper LTXSE for sale w/ dealer installed MPI Turbo and intercooler w/ less than 1k miles and 3 more years warranty for about $9k.
I have a few concerns... First and foremost is reliability.
I've read about the starter issues... I had this issue on a Nytro.
Turbo... reliability? He claims 200hp on his set up.
I have read about valves and dropped cylinders... of course the bad rods which this is an early 2016 model so I doubt would have that issue.
I've read there's no knock sensors to prevent detonation... I am pretty conservative...
Normally I am a stock kind of guy adding studs and a clutch kit as my aftermarket options. Never gone this far with adding or having a sled that turbo was added to it.
I like speed going across a lake to open it up but I am getting older and I don't take as many chances these days speeding through trails.
The more I spend on this site, the more apprehensive I am about possibly buying a turbo Viper.
A dealer I saw this weekend said save my money and buy the Sidewinder. Well that is $6-9k more. I already would have a hard time justifying the $9k Viper.
I have an Apex now (06 RTX 121)... The Apex makes me smile whenever I squeeze the throttle but I get a workout going through trails.
The Nytro I had, I hated the seating position and handling of it.
Any honest feedback would be appreciated... Also, do you think $9k is a good deal for it?

I thought about possibly picking up a 2015 leftover Arctic Cat 9000 as I know at least stock it came with turbo and has the knock sensors... and there are a bunch of them around still for around the same price... But going on the Arctic Cat forums those guys complain about quality, belt issues, $$$$ for belts, engine alignment, jackshaft failures, clutch issues, too much heat under hood... etc... So I figure I should stay away from Arctic Cat... Plus I have been a diehard Yamaha guy for my entire adult life.

Wow $9000 seems too good to be true! Only thing odd is why the owner would say 200hp? That's not the trail turbo if so. I would look for proof that it is actually dealer installed and at least registered with Yamaha as so. To me what I take from listening to the Turbo guys is proper install is half the battle with reliability of them. Sure thinking about going Turbo myself. Sounds like a great find there.

I have the same setup early 16, minus the innercooler.

So far happy with the sled. I had an issue with the mounting bracket on the turbo. That ms really the only complaint. It's something you might wanna check on this machine. Your going to love the ride and mid range pull your hands power, if you buy it.

just upgrade to an apex with EPS you wont be disappointed.

He actually said it has 210hp as it has the intercooler and not the cheaper 180hp version. It's set a 5 PSI and was installed and set up by the local Yamaha dealer around here. I'd confirm it if I purchased it. But I found the 210hp claim to be questionable if it is just turbo'd w/ intercooler...

I missed the intercooler part. That's a great upgrade. Just can't believe 9 for that setup. Tough call. Is a lot to be said for stock reliability especially since that's what you are used to. It would be hard to find a PS Apex for that I bet.

Something's not right in the story. Likely just talk. But if it's only set to 5 psi I really don't think you can see 210. If it has an innercooler it could easy be 210. If setup with right gear.and more boost I think around 6-8psi

It will be easy to check for some of the gear when you go look at it. It should have the dual port waste gate ( you can see under the panel). And you can see the innercooler. It's not a trail kit, it's stage one.

If it's stage 1 does it still run on 91 pump gas?
This is what he says in his email dealer "installed and set the boost at 5 psi and set up all the suspension. The turbo is the intercooled model that gives 210 HP not the cheaper bolt on that is now available at 180HP"

He's trying to sell you on the 210 but it's a perfect setup.

And yea supreme fuel is good if it's setup like he says. The boost it set through the electronic boost controller. which is set right in the tuner.

This is the stage one kit to add on the trail model. You need to send your programmer ( gems) to mpi to raise the boost . It's just a Geusse but what it sounds like is they have the stage one without changing the boost in the gems controller.

Not a problem really if that's the case. Just you really could run more or stay safe at 5.

$9000.0 will get you a nice used apex with EPS

Well if it is an early build 16 motor that is a great deal. The MPI Stage 1 (with intercooler) was $5000.00 and install and clutching as much as another $1500 you cannot buy a N/A model for that money. It would not have the electronic boost controller most likely and you adjust it at the waste gate. Unless it has the MPI race muffler on it I highly doubt it is achieving the 200+ hp. As far as the warranty they have stated they will stand behind any non turbo related failure and as long as it was dealer installed ? and not pushing high lbs even rod failures have been covered.

For relatively cheap you can reflash the ecu and pull timing and add 4th injector ad push it to 235 hp on pump gas and 260 on race gas. My 15 Is unbelievable compared to any of my past N/A and turbo sleds.

It would be a no brainer for me as long as turbo was an MPI and dealer installed. That's a steal at 9k. I love my 15 turbo sled. I too came off a Apex and would never think of going to a stock Viper after getting off my slightly modded Apex. Keep us posted!
