Anybody knows of this safety feature.

we were 3 2020 sidewinder this weekend and all 3 had the same thing happening

-30 celcius this morning, the second the machine fires up starter cuts off. it took all 3 of us at least 20 tries before engine fired up.

2019 model was able to hold starter when it was firing... started well

obviously its a safety feature, but for what reason, and how to bypass this, where we ride cold weather happens alot

thanks

Try to start with key.

I was in Timmins Friday night and same thing happened to me Saturday morning, first turn of the key and sled started for a second and stalled, second turn of the key and sled fired right up.

Xtx is right, the starter doesn’t stay engaged while holding the key, I’ve tried even at trail side with engine at operating temps.

Then the 20's recognize when the engine fires(probably through crank sensor) and cut power to the starter circuit.

Geeze why? They must be really confident they will start and not kickback. Dumb move. I would wire up my own starter circuit.

No relay issues, all 3 2020 - 2 x xtx LE and 1 LTX GT...

Key or switch was the same...

The 2019 XTX LE was able to hold key on while it was firing.

I was told about this, probably a safety feature that is a huge pain in the #*$&@! you need cold temp to see this. - 30 celcius

I certainly wouldn't. However, the fuel mapping obviously isn't correct for -30 starting.

figures. must be controlling the relay with the ecu. cant wait until the dealers, "never heard of it". sounds like starters will end up back ordered too, since they will fail by the bucket load a year or 2 from now... sad to have to alter a brand new sled, but I would see if there is a wire at the key to tap and run the relay with. holding the starter engaged until running and then some is the only way to go. otherwise, most any 4 stroke snowmobile would take several tries. Even when other people run my sleds, I start it for them so I don't get mad when they let off too soon.

I was actually surprised how well my sled started, started way better than my buddies 850’s did. -34c with windchills in the mid -40’s is cold..

if starter was to hold for a few seconds, there is no issue.

the second it fires, starter stops... it takes at least 15 + tries, trust me it will start don't lose hope. Keep on hitting the start key or switch.

easy enough to find out. jump the relay. I've done it with a beer cap on the done of the trail before

Started on second try Saturday morning

Maybe they are addressing the stuck relay issue that leaves the starter stuck on until it burns up. So not a bad idea as I see it but it needed a five second delay.
