2022's - Are there even going to be any?

Why does every one of these kinds posts have to turn into an Apex vs the world. I understand that some guys don't feel the need to up grade that's all good but let's face it what does the Apex have to offer other than the motor.

A s*%tload less maintenance!

They all have maintenance issues... Apex issues such as, Wheel bearings, exhaust donuts, suspension bushings, etc...
 
Yup but never done more maintenance on another sled like we do on the Winders.....
 
Too bad these threads always fall back to made in Japan vs Yamacat, it’s like trolls sneaking into thread. My Attak was less maintenance for the first few years hands down, it was fast and handled okay on fast saddlebag trips on big trails. There is no comparison when it comes to overall chassis dynamics however. Cat nailed something with the pro cross chassis that is kind of intangible I think. Until this year I liked the fast trail riding handling of my yamacat the best with new Polaris right up there. This years top of the line doos are a huge improvement over first 4 model years which I couldn’t get to handle well under any conditions, 21 rasx or whatever they are calling it really works well for trails. That said fast trail touring is 4 stroke territory, doing the BRP tour from dealer to dealer (5 in 7 day tour) of Quebec last year to buy oil for 850s that run their reservoir out everyday only to be 20 mph slower is a PITA. Competitions turbo doesn’t work for my mixed riding with combo of lag and off throttle boost surging. We deserve an interactive multi function dash interface at this price point and Made in Japan chaincase, just ship the chaincase over with the engines and ecus? If Yamaha and Cat don’t bring something mostly new they will start to bleed sales regardless of what we say on here. Power toys have to change even if only for marketing purposes because shiny and new brings buyers in the dealers.

Here’s hoping Yamaha hasn’t wrote off global snowmobile division because of global warming, that has been my suspicion for a while. No ice on Great Lakes this year is record setting. Regardless I am hoping for a new improved lighter chassis. More aluminum and carbon in the sub frame instead of all steel current design.
 
I am keeping a close eye on the '22s from all manufacturers.

I always thought if I buy another 998, that I would try the Tcat this time around. Reasons are pretty simple, with the main reason being Snowmageddon. This special pricing from Cat last year brought the Tcat way way down in price when compared to the Winder, but I'm not so sure they will still offer snowmaggedon, as it is typically announced sooner then this, I hope Tcat is not back to normal pricing for 22!

Also, i am not a fan of the electronic shock. While it may be nice to have, I consistently read about them not working or having issues with switching the setting. Cat is smart, as they still sell the Tcat with good ole manual adjusting Qs3 shocks. No 998s can be bought with the top shocks(Qs3r Kashima) at all 4 points, unfortunately those days are gone. I really wish Yamaha would give us the option of manual or electronic shocks on their SRX and LE models. After all, YAM has the best colors!

Other items....

Its hard to believe the procross chassie has been around since 2012. Many changes since then, but overall still same chassie. 2022 should be the(60th?)Cat anniversary, so maybe this will be the year cat finally has a new chassie.....I would bet the next Gen would only get the cat 2 stroke engines, as it would surely be leaner, narrower like the others are doing. That new Matryx from POO has been getting really hi reviews all across the board. But I would bet the 998 remains in the same ole procross as last year.

Not sure what else they will do, other then colors. Nice to see YAM finally has a single keel ski after way too long. Maybe they can give us a gauge package that is alittle more appealing, although I really dont mind the gauge and all its functions. Im sure guys here would all agree, they should fix all the issues. Beef the primary up(remove set screws), Better top gear/bushing, and maybe swap out the roller tensioner to a delrin pad style like most every other sled has, and a sure fire fix for the driveshaft bearing, I have read a few say their 21 fitment is better, I guess time will tell, I still would install BOP(the original) Shaft saver for sure. Would be nice to just get several fixes.

Are you not happy with your Doo?
I'm sure this wont be popular, but I loved my 850 XRS. It was very nice for a change, to just ride and not wrench. For tight trail systems that get pounded out from hi traffic, just cannot beat the XRS IMO. The Winder was always a handful on these types of trails. At end of the day I was always fresh on the XRS, while I was sore and beat up riding the 4 stroker, Be it my 1200 or 900t or Winder.

But, on our trips to Qc, those trails are wide open, and flat....the Winder is king up there and I got quite bored on the 850 up there. Always felt 2 sleds were needed for me, and hoping to go that route next year. This year with pandemic has been a real eye opener, not being able to head to my cottage for nearly a year has been really rough on me and the entire family.

I did not want to lose a bunch of money on my 850, so I sold it a few weeks ago as sleds are pulling in some big dollars. Got the money back pretty much that I paid for it brand new, so i don't regret it. I will be on another 2 smoker for sure, and also aiming to buy another turbo for Qc.

Just keeping open mind to which sleds I want to try next. I like trying new things and get bored fast with same ole sled. I've been on a 2 yr buying plan for the last 10 yrs or so, and keeping eye on the Matryx 850(840cc) for my next 2 smoker to try out, unless Doo brings some changes. Certainly cannot beat the Doos for quality and engineering, turn-key sleds that dont need anything for the most part.

There is a part of me that still has an eye on the 900t for a Qc sled, iTC is my biggest worry, but that becomes less of an issue on the big trails where you are running 70+MPH most the time. I feel i know the Winder so well, it may be abit boring to do it all over again, so the 900t may be something I try, and it would be between the B.E. Tune(possibly stage 2) or the WS Tune(uses Pv3). These are the two tuners that seem to have the most satisfied iTC owners. And the 900t, is a DOO which needs nothing, engineering is good. Just needs a tune and iTC help, but very little concern of being towed home like my Winder. LOL.

In the end, the Winder/Tcat 998 is king tho.....so if the big power is really wanted, there is no way you are gonna get that kind of grunt with the 900t, without big dollars.....But the 998s are more money then a 900t, since you can get several models of 900t....I dont need the great shocks for the Qc sled at all, heck i dont think ive ever seen a bump up there..haha.

Lots to think about, Will make decision once 22s are released on paper, and I can get pricing from Michigan dealer, since my local dealer is gone now.

I have been thinking of the 900T also. It does ride lighter than the Sidewinder. But the power is SOOOOO addicting.....
 
A friend of mine rides 15000 kms a year average on Northern Ontario and Quebec trails. He is on sled number 40, buys new every year, coming off an 850 doo last year. Decided to try a 900T with a tune and said it was the worst 20000$ he ever spent.
 
What was so bad about it??? What tune/ tuner did he use?
 
1st time on a 4 banger. Doesn't like the weight and the throttle is horrible. The tune has nothing to do with it.

Maybe by the time he has his 15000 kms in he'll have a different opinion but he's already going back to an 850 next year.
 
Man, the power of these tuned Winders is so awesome. I went out for rip today with a neighbour on a 2018 800 Polaris. I let him lead for a while, then we have to cross a bridge around a right hand corner and then the trail takes a left hand curve onto a straight away about 1/3 of a mile before heading into a bush. I come out of the left hand curve not far behind him, then mash the throttle and power by him lickity-split on the inside. He doesn't have a chance, nor would any 850. So fun!
 
I'd love to test ride a 900T. I test rode a 900ACE N/A last weekend. Love the seat and rear skid. It felt light for sure. Power was better than I expected. The throttle took some getting used to. I rode it in sport mode. Very jumpy.

The front suspension and steering effort were not up to par with my SW.

I'm curious if the G4 handles better.

I love my Sidewinder, but for the second year in a row, I'm having to wait 3 weeks to get parts. That is absolute BS when the season is so short. When my Doo buddies have issues, they are back on the trail immediately.
