Just collecting some thoughts on this, and was contemplating changing the gear ratio in my 2013 Apex XTX to a 23/38- 1.65 ratio from the stock 23/37 1.61 ratio. Has anyone done this, and if so what differences have they noticed. Was it faster on top end from running in a different(maybe more efficient/usuable) clutch/rpm range(better shift out) or did you lose speed up on top? I'll assume it will be quicker all the way around, but who knows, all the torque may make it slower off the line if "duking" on a snow covered launch due to more track spin, as opposed to good bite on ice. Any comments appreciated. Currently running 10,700ish rpms on top, I know I need to add clutch weight to get the rpm's down a little now, and definitely if there is a gear swap.
Thanks in advance,
Rick

i was contemplating changing gears but with 23/37 I was hitting 119.7mph in barely freezing temps, so imagine when it stiffens up a bit outside. The pick up and finish with the setup seems good enough to me. Nothing can get me out of the hole unless conditions are not right for an 1.25" track.
According to dyno sheets floating around on here the 2011+apexs you should be looking at rpms of 10,800-10,900 on top. Dont think adding weight will do you any good for top end on that note

Being the bottom gear's are not cheap I wouldn't waste my money for one tooth! Either go two in the bottom or one on the top. Two bigger on the bottom would be slightly more efficient and easier on the chain than one smaller on top. Much more expensive though!

I am under the impression at around 10,800/10,900 rpms that the motor starts retarding the timing, cutting power to the motor, therefore you wanted to be just under that threshold. That was just my impression anyways.

I ran 23/39 gears in my xtx and didnt see any benefit at all ... Got worse gas mi and spun the track a lot more ... Lost about 7mph on top... Went back to 23/37 and like it much better... The 2011 and up apexs make almost 30lbs of torque more then the older once so no need to gear down... I run a 1.5 crossover track to and with 23/39 it just spun more thats about it...
