As I am replacing the track on my '06 RTX, I thought I might swap the 24 top for a 23 top gear. Service manager at my dealer stops me at parts counter to assure me that I would be better off replacing my secondary spring with the stock Attack secondary spring. Apparently for the 200lb plus crowd, the Attack spring will hold the shift longer, affording the sled a better chance to pull the tall gearing. He swears that they have had great results, gaining typically 3mph on top with a stronger mid - top pull. Does anyone have any practical experience with this?

Umm, not giving you a hard time. Take a look at this post. It should answer any clutching and gearing question you may have

Cool. Thanks for the link. How did you arrive at 1.66 being optimal? Can I run 40/24 with the stock chain? As 38/23 is likely more cost effective, is there a major downside in terms of efficiency.....say.....chain failure? I ordered the Attack stock secondary spring, is it safe to assume it is white? Enough questions yet? How do you like me so far?

Hey.... Thanks,

Hey.... Thanks,

How did you arrive at 1.66 being optimal?

Through testing, and real world field testing against very strong running sleds.

Can I run 40/24 with the stock chain?

Yes

As 38/23 is likely more cost effective, is there a major downside in terms of efficiency.....say.....chain failure?

No, not chain failure. Its just that the 40 is more effecient with less drag/restriction

I ordered the Attack stock secondary spring, is it safe to assume it is white?

Yes, the Attak spring is a White (atually all black with a small white dot in the center of the spring. Thats how Yamaha marks them)

Enough questions yet?

Ask away man, thats what this site is for

How do you like me so far?

Funny....Hope your enjoying the site...BBY

I know I've said it before but this site, it's members and mods are without exception the greatest resource a Yamaha owner could ask for. Love the site, thanks for your patience. Will apply what I have learned in the coming week. Thanks again.
