A couple track/studding questions

- I just finished my year off with around 1500kms on my new to me 06 RTX.
- When I bought it last year, I thought that the track had a little over kill on the studs.
- There were 4 on every gap in the track. (196?)

- Well...so far this year, I've had 4 pull through and I'm thinking I'm due for some new rubber and picks for next year.

- Measured from the "inside" of the track to the top of the tread is 1 1/4"
- The studs measure 1 3/4" from base to tip.

- Having never done track and stud work, I'm assuming my track is a 121" x 1 1/4"

- Here's the questions...

- What's the best track/stud combo for 99% trail riding?
- I like to ride aggressive but I don't think need that many studs.
- Is the studding rule = 1 stud/1 horsepower?

- All help and or links to other info on here is greatly appreciated!

- With four studs pulled through, should I be looking to get a new track?

- Not sure how many miles/kms were put on it before I bought it.

One of the biggest causes of pull through is not properly maintaining the studs. You need to keep then torqued properly all the time. I used to do mine once a week and never had any issues. I would keep an eye on the pull through areas for now. If you go for a new track most would reccomend the Cobra track however the ripsaw is a grat trail only track. Also don't go higher than 1.325 studs. Any higher will possible cause you some cooler damage. 144 up the middle is a popular number. I had 192 but I think it was a bit overkill.

With four pull thru's I would be changing out the track.

A few guys around here swear by a 1" Predator with 96-144 up the middle. They say they actually gain mph with excellent hookup. This will be my next track after the Ripsaw gives up.

I had the 1" Predator with 144 in the middle and I was happy with it, never had any pull outs but a few lugs tore off the sides of it and I replaced it with an IceRipper.

Best trail set-up for me is:

Track - Kimpex Shotgun 1 1/4" ( more durable than the ripsaw and pre drilled hole )
Studs - woody gold digger 1.325" ( 1" head whit groove in it that hold the track firm )
Backer plate - stud boy single power plate ( woody square bent< my previous backer)
Torque the studs and place the backer straight with the track and put some blue loctite......no need to re-torque them after.

Stud pattern is personal choice,you can go 144 in the middle but if you want more traction stud the outside of the track.I have try almost all stud pattern, 96 in the middle, 144 in the middle with double backers,144 in the middle + 48 outside=192.

My personal preference is 96 in the middle + 48 outside = 144
