A report from Cubby

CUBBY the last thing i would have done is posted this here post.... $3700 for 18hp..??

Why not spend $4500 and get a turbo and make 70-100hp more??

Freddie please dont take offense to this.. but thats alot of cash for the return!

Well I never......... No boys it's cool. I wanted a sleeper. A naturally asperated sleeper. Roll up on some sleds and kick a little butt. However I cant roll up on a RX-1 because all YOUSE guys know what I did to it. When I bought this thing back in 03 Bender was doing the only turbo at the time and I was sceptical. So yes now 3 years later there are many kinds of turbos to choose from and they are most likely reliable. So basically, different strokes for different folks. And I am happy with what I got.....................Cubby

You are totally right MightyWarrior, the turbo would be a much bigger bang for my buck however it's extra weight too. It would be too much power for me since I don't drag race, and holding 130mph for 4 or 5 minutes straight is plenty fast and fun for me. It's tempting but I will just do the porting, timing & ignition for as cheep as possible. NOS is out of the question just because of remoteness in my area and I don't trust it. I will try to bring up the compression using the new 8FU 11603 bike rings. If I get the HP up to a little over 150HP and reduce weight 35lbs I would be happy. Then at least I would have the same power as my friends D&D moded F7. I just figure that adding any extra weight (even a pound) is going in the wrong direction for me. :4STroke:

I'm not trying to say its too much money or not, but you are not going to get a turbo in for, $4500.

By the time you add a boost guage and air/fuel or EGT guage which are a necessity, you are up to $4700-4900.

Plus if you pay someone to install it and dial it in, you are up at least an additional $1000.

It appears that Cubby wanted a turn key power increase.

I just finished installing my turbo and now it is dial in time. All I'm saying is that, I'll probably love my turbo once its all dialed in, but right now I'm sitting with crossed fingers that I don't experience all of the problems that can come with a new turbo install.

That does not include the $283 barrel of 110 octane sitting in the back of the garage.

Best of luck with your new ride Chubby. Hopefully you will be able to sneak up on some Cats, etc.

THATS COOL.. I can understand the sleeper thing...

I know Mountain performance sells CAMS and pistons for like $1000 and stage 2 turbos for $4500 (catalog is right in front of me)

Not bashing here but that's $25.00 for each HP, you only gained 18. I'm thinking a Turbo may be way more bang for your buck. Or at the bare minimum NOS :?

Your math is indeed way off but nonetheless, you all have to realize that back in let's say 1985 to 1989 you could almost double your power for around $2500.00. Not too bad huh? Problem today is that technology has escalated immensely and the engines are just better than way back then. Those days are long gone.

Turbo's worth anything are $5500.00 to $6000.00 if you are paying someone to install the turbo kit. Even if you install it yourself, the labor did indeed cost you something. Next we have dyno time. If you think you don't need dyno time after a turbo install, tell me that when you have conrods hanging out the front of your engine.

Just some things to think about.

Chubby and Cuddy...I LOVE it!!! Speaking of chubbies...

Welterracer, isn't it grand that we live in a country that allows us freedom of choice. But you aren't going to get a turbo purchased, installed and tuned for $4500.00. No offense taken though.

Freddie

to cool !!

I picked mine up last night, went for a quick ride, what a difference. I met a 4 stroke master.Change gearing, lots of clutching,k& Ns,air breather, and carb springs, and jets. was doing about 40,squezed the throttel and hang on,125 in about 3-4 seconds, what a rush. cant wate to go up against my friends on sunday :yam: :4STroke: :rocks:
