I sometimes wish my idle was higher, especially just after having started the engine, as we all know it`s not good to let the sled run with the choke on, so I switch the choke off imediately after start up. If I don`t keep it on the throttle, it often stalls before the "warm up" light goes away.
Is there anything I should be aware of when it comes to adjusting the idle? I`m thinking about TORS etc. ?
Should I let it be the way it is since it isn`t idling to low when hot, and low idling is perfectly normal for a cold engine, but, it wount hurt it to idle just alittle higher so that i doesn`t stall when it`s cold..

Once it starts, go to half choke for a couple seconds. The rpm will rise, then turn choke off. They do not flood easily like the 2 strokes.

you can turn the idle up to 1500-1600 rpm with no problems and it reduces the gear reduction rattle as well. this rpm warm will let it idle when you first start it, with little or no choke.

You wont do the engine any harm by letting it run with the choke on when you first start the sled in the morning.
You might foul out a spark plug if you have the choke on and are using the throttle keep the rpms up, but just the choke alone wont hurt anything.
You can adjust the idle by turning a screw that should be somewhere by the carbs.

the white arrow points to the idle screw. pretty sure dealer told me the best idle for the rx1 is somewhere between 13-1500? someone correct me if im wrong but i think thats it... leaning more to the 1300

I run my 03 at 2000 rpm to do away with that nasty gear rattle. Never had a problem, the clutch doesn't engage for another 1500 - 2000 rpm's anyway. Any it sounds much smoother.

if you have clutch rattle thats noticeable, you should tighten it up.. that was the case with an 03 that we had.

Didn't say clutch rattle, I said gear rattle. Its the gear reduction causing the noise. All the 03's do it down low. Also syncing the carbs helps as the idle smooths out. No need to idle down that low anyhow.

ok, my bad
on one we had, at 1300 rpm it was VERY loud, like a clanging, and it used up gas real badly.. all fixed up now though

Rock On!
Ok guys thanks for the replys and thanks for the pic justin1635
Ok, my idle is infact too low
It idles at only 1000rpm, so this is according to the book, not how it should be, so I will adjust it up 1300 this weekend.
Will I have to adjust the gas cable freeplay or something, to avoid TORS problem?. I guess it wount be needed since only a few turns are necessary to make it idle 300rpm higher..

Mine came from the factory idling at 11-1200 rpm. After break in it was idling around 1000 and I had a hard time starting it. The dealer cranked it up to 1500 rpm. Now it starts much better. My dad's '03 is around 1200 I think and starts good.
