I changed my oil last night and when I had the side cover off I noticed the belt is riding too low in the secondary. How do I adjust it- is it as simple as adding or removing washers? I'm not familiar with Yamaha clutches.

Take the clutch off and then the snap ring on the back. Between the two shivs are some shims. Remove one of them. Remember which holes your secondary spring are in. Put it back together and put the shim under the snap ring in case you need it later. If your belt is still too low remove another shim. I had to remove one on my sled to get the belt to sit right.
