AFTERMARKET A ARMS

Does this look too wide?

You barely notice the wide kit on the sled, look at these. The Apex is stock and the RX is widened.

My stock GT... just BARELY clears the fence and creak crossings in IA and around where i live!! (they are setup for older sleds)

Sorry, I didn't know your trails were that bad there. They are all wide enough here. What do the new ski doo revs do there? Ski Doo lists their ski stance at 47 inches on their website (probably edge of ski to edge of ski).

actually Skidoos use simons skis and they measure from the outside carbides on each ski!

they are actually the same as the apex from center of skis to center of ski..

The apex is wider than the rx-1 stock for stock!

outside of ski to outside of ski stance is really NOT the correct way to measure its center to center and what is the stance of the Apex ....the same as a vector or Rage right? 42.75 maybe a 1/2" wider than a rx-1? Thats nothing compared to the pioneer kit or what it can do to handling.

Its all HYPE that skidoo uses for marketing..

And yes.. you are right the Pioneer kit is wider and BETTER

First of all let me say i have used pioneer stuff before and it is or has worked awsome, like advertised and i would be interested in the 45 kit for mt attak if i thought i could get it in my trailer with no problems,i can say that the two new rtx and attak sleds we picked up sit beside each other narrower than with my 01 edge beside my 06 attak,i think its the wider ski poo uses, but any rate isent it the overall width of the sled that bothers us when we try to squeeze thru tight areas??? So outside measurment of either ski edge or what ever part of the sled is the widest would pose the greatest problem right guys???? ;)!

Another pro is the option of running longer shocks. Travel can be increased to a measured 12".... bumps anyone? Don't forget you can recoup some money selling the good stock arms.

true very true I can sell my old a arms...and as far as loading it on the trailer you can load one forward and one backwards.. ;)! Are the float shocks 12" of travel?

If the longer 18.75" shocks with 6+" of travel are used, yes, you will obtain 12" of travel. These Floats are for the cat snowpro. The outer tierod just starts to bind at full droop with these. You can pick up fully adjustable take off Float X shocks with rezzies for around $650. I have an extra set of regular Floats, PM if interested. Oh, you'll need to pick up the adapter bushings from Fox.

I have the Pioneer wide kit on my 05 RX1 last year. I noticed a big improvement although I am surprised to hear in this post that it handles as good as the Apex.

The last only complaint I had was during assembly. Their set up requires you to place a deep socket wrench into the tube that is welded at the outer end of the a arms. I had a hard time finding 2 sockets in my collection that would actually fit into the tube (the Yamaha arms have a longer bolt that mounts to the outer end of the tube while the Pioneer arms use a short bolt that is placed inside and secures the spindle from the inside edges)

NO he said it handles better! >>

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pros are less darting on the railroad grade (not many sleds have that wide of a stance for your carbides to fall into), ultra flat cornering, less ski lift, and it's a few pounds lighter. The RX-1 now corners better than my stock Apex.

It handles the FLAT corners better. Probably not in all conditions though. I only have 175 miles on the Apex and 75 miles on the RX-1 since I installed the kit. I almost forgot and should mention that I have a 13mm swaybar instaed of the 12mm that comes in the kit. RedRX1 I had the same problem with the 2 deepwell sockets, had to buy an extra one.

45" Kit

I also have the 45" kit and absolutely love it. Compared to last year my sled is so much better in the corners. I can power slide thru corners at speed without ski lift. I also have much less fatigue after riding since so much less time is spent hanging my body out to keep the sled level. All my friends (non Yamaha guys) rode my sled this week and agreed it was the best handling one out there. We were on the North Shore and put over 250 miles on. There was a Rev, IQ Polaris, older Pols, and a Vector. No one could even come close to hanging with me in the tight twisty stuff. Last year I was the one who could barely keep up. All my riding buddies were trying to figure out why I was so much faster. After riding my sled with the wide front end and the RTX mono RA skid they all wanted to run out and get a new Apex. I am just glad I was able to get a few more years out of my 03 RX-1 by spending only a few hundred dollars. I am even happier to hear that my RX-1 out handles the new Apex machines. My dealer said he thought mine handled better after he did some back to back comparisons while we were setting it up, but I thought he was just saying that to make me feel better. Now I believe him!!

Otis

BTW It is hard to fit into my enclosed trailer. I have to keep it beside an older Indy trail that's really narrow for it to fit. It's worth it and yes the narrow walled deep metric sockets required for installation was a pain, but again worth it.

I too am experimenting with widening the ski stance on my 2006 Yamaha VK Professional. I think a set of a arms from one of the short track models might make a good set. If anyone has installed a widening kit on theirs and would like to get a few bucks back for their take offs PM me with a price and any other info.
