aligning the jackshaft?

Quick question. I have just changed the jackshaft brg and am woindering how do you tighten the lock ring and tappered sleve? I can only get it finger tight then try to hold with spanner wrench and the shft just turns inside the sleve?
Do I need a tool to hold the lock ring and one to turn the sleve??

jack shaft alignment is done from the chain case side. all berings, bushings, washers etc must be installed and tightened on the chain case and case must be tightened down to tunnel. do all this with the lock collar loose on the clutch side bearing. then retighten collar.

if the chain case is already installed, just loosen and retighten the lock collar if you are wondering if it is set correct.

the same is true for the drive shaft bearing, dont tighten the set screws untill chain case is assembled AND suspension front shaft is tight.

BETHEVIPER, so I chnaged my track on the weekend and did not loosen the jackshaft collar when I removed and installed the chain case. Should I loosen the jackshaft collar and then re-torque it to see if it shifts it into balance?

Also, when I did tighten the chain case, I waited until I was done that before I tighten the set screws on the drive axle.

Thanks..

This thread has helped me a bunch. Thanks guys. I'm new to Yamaha and I replaced all drive bearings. I have a 2005 RS Rage and the Yamaha parts breakdown shows a collar behind the chaincase on the jackshaft. I don't remember seeing this collar during disassembly. Does the RS use this collar or does the jackshaft taper ride in the chaincase seal. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You better look for that collar............I did my shaft bearing last week and just saw that collar and washer when I was reassembling. Mine was wedeged between the exhaust shields so I usede a reod to align themn back when I pushed the jackshaft through...............hope that helps. And to the guy up a couple posts, put your secondary on the shaft while holding the nut behind the jshaft bearing and tighten with the clutch. Snug it up good but it will tend to tighten with use..........

New update on the jackshaft brg. I did the job back in Dec and I thought everything went back together well. I have about 600km on the sled since and have noticed that my brake rotor is sitting to far to the outside. It has worn into the outside park brake and the main brake pad is much thinner than the other.

If the rotor is to far out how do I get it back towards the engine? I followed all the instructions on this site. All collars and spacers went back i the same location. Not sure why the rotor is now farther out.

Any suggestions?
