I have seen a few posts which talked about the use of aluminum bogie wheels. Does anyone have any experience running these wheels? I made a complete set for my 03 shorty, they are aluminum only, no rubber coating. The only problem I see with using these wheels is wear due to road crossings and trails with marginal snow. I'd really like to use these wheels this season since they look soooo nice. Thanks for your help!!!

As long as you don't have anything HARD hitting them, they should be fine.

Hey RX-1 Jim, I installed some billet wheels on my sled and have not been able to try them out. I hate when I gotta agree with LB but he is right. If the wheels are not sticking below the wear bars they should be OK. If the wheels are not flush with the wear bars and sticking out beyond the wear bars is where earlier billet wheels have failed. My bro BBY (Matt) ran a set last year that exploded on him. I can't wait to try them, however I wont go out the first couple of times without my good old plastic wheels with me....................................Cubby

I don't know if this is applicable, but we once tried some solid plastic (no rubber) idler wheels from Sno-Stuff. They seemed to wear the track rubber off the fibreglass rods where they rolled on the inside of the track.

I do like the looks but have heard the ice builds up in them.

Speaking of ice build up, can you just picture this skid set up after a 2 hour ride in the snow???? I can tell you this, it won't ever look this good again...........................Cubby

I guess I should have been a little more clear. I have heard ice builds up MORE on the aluminum wheels than the plastic ones. They make Ice scratchers just for this purpose.

Thanks for the compliment impalapower. However I am paying Freddie all this money to hop up the motor so I gotta ride man, I cant wait to ride.
You know what I do all day here at work? I hang out in this forum all day. Then I check the web sites of my favorite places to ride to see the weather conditions. I wanna ride so bad I have been playin last years videos of our trips, over and over again. Dude I got the fever, real bad.
And it might interest you to know that North Bay Ontario has had 3 hits of snow in the last week. Nothing that sticks yet but the temps are staying pretty low up there. See, told ya I got it bad..........................Cubby
