I just read in the Nov. issue of American Snowmobiler that their annual shoot-out, which was held im my backyard, in Woodgate NY has been moved to Brainerd, Minn. at their international Speedway (BIR). This is a 1/4 mile asphalt drag strip. My question is: If their is no snow, will this still be held on the asphalt dragstrip? In Woodgate NY it was held on a grass and dirt course, and if there was no snow, it was like watching a race on grass, not much of a problem, except for the hyfax heating up sometimes. Sure was nice having it nearby when I only had to drive 20 minutes to get there. What ever happened to the people from this site who were going to put their own RX-1 sled together for the shoot-out? Hopefully the dealer who preps the RX-1 from the Brainerd area will do a better job then Big Moose Yamaha did.

I imagine they have other areas at that facility if the snow is low they would be on grass. If not they might truck the snow in or use a snowmaking machine. What was the reason for moving the shoot-out?

I live in Brainerd and our dealer would have a hard time prepping one - haha. I wouldn't count on anything special. I actually went an hour south to a different Yami dealer.
They are going to have a turbo shootout so I would imagine some of the hi HP sleds will be here.
It will be nice to be going this year vs. waiting to hear what everyone else had to say.
I have a Sony DVD video camera so I will get some movies of the shootout and post them.

I believe it will be mod sleds only "not stockers". All will have asphalt tracks, suspensions, and skis with wheels. Each participant has to pay $750.00 to run and they get a write up in American Snowmobiler mag. It still would be fun to watch and Brainerd is a fun town.

I think it is a good idea. There never seems to be much snow in NY during that time of year.

from what I can tell, peak is right - no stock or dealer prep sleds - kinda of ruined half the fun of it. The results always give the different brands something to jaw about.

There are no stock machines. This is a After amrket shootout. We "LightningPro" were invited but we've never run a machine on ashfault. We desided to decline. Plus they want 750.00 per sled to enter the event. For 750.00 I'll buy add space and say what I want about our product.
The funny this is this event doens't have one thing to do with trail riding. When they ran them in the snow at Old forge you had a feel for what your sled was capible of doing. this new event is for ashfaul racers.

kenlacy,
I assume you are talking about Brother's Motorsports? You are right, they are a disfunctional outfit. I live in Backus, and Brainerd is the closest Yamaha dealer to me. I hate buying from them, but I really don't have much of a choice if I want the part right away.

I was told this was moved to Brainerd because of the speeds that these things are getting these days was unsafe at the NY location, the shutdown area was too short. I started another post not realizing there was already one on this subject.....sorry, see....

If it was unsafe in that location they should have found a safe location that they could run the sleds the way they used to. Having the event in Minnisota is cheaper for the company that bought the RAG from Jerry Basset. THe new event has zero to do with trail riders

Actually I doubt it is cheaper to run at BIR in Brainerd - that is where they run the NHRA Nationals and I am sure the track is not cheap to rent for the day. But probably cheaper than having to rent a similar track out East.
There are at least a few Asphalt races per year at BIR so it is also a commonplace for the big boys.
