Another 2011 Apex review

Sometimes you just have to rock the sled with your butt to go into reverse.

Well I took her out on a longer run today. 130 miles. I can tell you this. This sled can close the gap very fast. I rode with a guy I just met today and he was able to corner better than me, probably because of my handling but on the the straights I would catch him so fast it was almost scary. From like 50-85/90 very quickly. It seems to dart less, but engine braking load the front end and the rear end gets squirrley. Very wierd. Good thing I have good riding skills (not bragging), because that will unnerve you if spook easily. Got 13mpg with aggressive hauling butt all day. Are you guys having any trouble getting it into reverse? I had trouble several times.

Snowtrackers on the skis with zero toe out. Then try releasing the front end spring preasure down to the lowest setting.... Then tell me what that does....

I tried Snowtrackers and Doolys on the new XTX and I can tell you it still darts more than I liked. Certainly more than I could take with my bad neck. I found myself driving it with a death grip on the bars it was moving back and forth so much. Either one of these carbide choices cured the darting completely on my old Attak or my Ski-Doo XR1200.

You should be able track straight as an arrow with either one fo the above carbides. But, it's not the case with the new 2011 with power steering. They don't cure the darting on the 11 like they did on the old Apex/Attak.

I think due to the slop in the bars from the way the power steering is designed, that the hunting or darting will ever be cured. If you cant "hold" the skis, they will be prone to moving off course some. It reminds me of driving an over the road truck with play in the steering wheel. I feel the power steering allows this "play" that takes away from the precise steering feel of the older Apex with tight steering.

My 2011 also had the same trouble as the old Attak with getting it in reverse sometimes.

You were using the doo skiis. They are not allways the best option as a lot of my doo buds won,t use em.Did you also tighten limiters & take out transfer like i told everyone to do?I know if you had the new yammie skiis with snow trackers it would have been a different story.

That;s what I thought as well. Mike was using pilots with snowtrackers on the 2011 Apex.... Not what I would have tried.....

I thought you sold your 2011, because it was worse than the 2006?

Turk, tried the tighter limiters, Pilot 6.9's with snowtrackers and shapers in middle, stock outside. New Yamaha skis with doolys. It wasn't a different story. Just not the precise steering I was looking for or needing. It was not the only thing that irritated me with the new XTX.

The machine just wasn't what I was looking for, so I did sell it yes. I wish the new owner Viper Dave well. He knows I prefer the XR1200, and thats OK. I tried the Apex XTX, but just didn't want to keep it. It just didn't work as well for me as the Ski-Doo does. You like your XTX and that is what matters. As long as everyone is happy with their machines its all good. You have to be able to smile in your helmet.

Did you use stud boy Dual carbides or woodys?

Dump the skis and put on curve xs's. A little more effort at slow speeds, but nice centering feel and no darting. Good for 10mph over whatever you've got on..lol.
No one is unimpressed with my old 06 Apex with these things on..great handling in all conditions compared to stock. 25 psi in the floats (unweighted), or whatever makes your a arms level when you sit on it.

Tightening front skiis shocks
adds skis pressure.

nuh uh.

If you stand on a scale put a hand on your head and push down really hard, will your weight change?

So I should unload the front springs by turning the nut counter clockwise? Or compress the spring by turning clockwise?

too Unload.... counter clockwise....
