I installed a zx2 last year on my Apex GT and I am having trouble with the following handling characteristics:
1) I have pilot 5.9s and the sled used be really flat handling thru turns. Now it wants to lift the inside ski. I tried toeing out the skis a little more, but this didn't help. I also put clamps to keep the limiter strap centered.
2) We have lined up a few times to drag race. When I throttle hard off the line it wants to track to the left (if I recall correctlyP. It's like the torque is twisting the supension.
I'm guessing there is a good chance the 2 issues are related. Everything is tight and the skid was professionally installed by a shop. I haven't played with preload or dampening setting on the front at all. I weight 185 Ibs.
Any advise would be appreciated. Just getting ready to put the R1 away and roll out the Apex in a couple months. Life is rough!!
I would make sure both shocks out back have there springs set to the same preload. Also make sure ski-alignment is correct. Check ski-carbides (I am sure you have). When you get some time read through all the ZX-2 threads in this section, lots of good advice in there.
Also check out a 13mm sway bar, that will really help keep your front end down in the corners.
I recall the same issue where the skis would lift too much in the corners with my ZX2 on my Vector. I ended up changing the settings with the pins so there was less weight transfer and that helped. Check your manual. I can't remember what setting I used, but if you search the ZX2 threads, you should be able to find that info. I also softened the tension on the ski springs too.
Regarding the left tracking problem, have a look at the front limiter strap and see if it is centered on the cross bracing. It has a habit of moving off center while riding. A few riders have secured it by some means to prevent this from happening.
I found that this suspension is quite dependant upon track tension. Be sure to check track tension as per manual and make sure that everything is squared up and centered.
