any news on 08 models

Boost is way too much liability, and seems that some people cant get it tuned perfectly on the first try. Takes some tinkering to get it right, and has to be adjusted for elevation you ride unlike the Fuelie apex. i doubt a turbo or blower would be put on stock. Arctic cat can do it, but on a 120hp trail sled.

I don’t think you’ll ever see a turbo or supercharger from Yamaha as other have stated. They can easily make 160-170 hp without turbo so why tool up for one? Yeah polaris and AC do have turbo, but I think they need turbo just to be barely competitive with the naturally aspirated yamies. Call it cheating for power if you will.
Now an aftermarket turbo on an already 150 hp sled? Yeah I can live with 260 hp on pump premium fuel! lol

I’m anxiously waiting for the 08 lineup…

The 'problem' is for guys that ride at altitude. I am losing 25% of the rated HP when I unload, and am down over 30% where I do alot of my riding. Mild boost on the three cylinder engine, giving us 150-170 hp at all altitudes would probably sell well, the fun part would be getting insurance.

Yamaha WILL bring the boost, Just not yet. Once the other guys start getting close to yamaha 4-stroke perf they will bring out the boost. That message comes right from the top test guys. Eric

now there is someone that is thinking.... unfortunately for us, yami is so far ahead in the HP and performance of the 4 strokes they dont have to up the ante.... yet.... but when needed they will..... either higher output natural aspirated (which i think will be here sooner than later with 170ish HP), or i would assume the SC would be easier to produce will come when needed. i doubt you will see either turbo or SC on the the three holer, as a factory setup in that engine probably would be more near the apex/attak performance anyway.... yami knows better than to turn a high boost (turbo or SC) out to the public with fear of owners not using the right fuel/settings and end up with a bunch of blown up sleds out there and people bitchin... so for the guys that want mega hp, you are still going to need to head to the aftermarket.

well im done, for now..... my 2 cents.

I would think if they did boost something it would be supercharged.
A factory turbo would be too easy for somebody to throw on a boost controller, crank up the boost until it goes bang. Unless they can find a way to limit boost in the ECM and store a code that would let dealers know that some one has cranked the boost up past its safe limit.

True, swapping a pully is not all that hard, but is more time consuming than installing a boost controler.

Superchargers can also be gear or chain driven. The drive system for a blower could be cast into the cases, making it a huge pain in or near impossible the change boost or blower speed. Sort of like the primary gear reduction on the rx and phazer.

Sure anything can be done with enough will and money, but boost on a high performance factory sled form yamaha would be a huge liability for yamaha and its dealers. People will find a way to crank up the boost, grenade an engine, and then expect it to be fixed under warranty even though it was their problem, not yamaha's.

From a dealers stand point, it would for sure sell sleds like crazy, but it could also become a warranty nightmare if it was too easy for the customer to tamper with.
