Anyone get Yamaha to replace a new chain case for an 06 Apex?
Apparently Yamaha is in denial about the chaincase situation. They will not admit that there is a problem but the did redesign it in 08. Apparently. they will not supply new 08 cases even if you experience a leak and subsequent failure.
Anyone can report other than this?????

Hey bud...
i was still under warrantee(1st year)....dealer told me he knew nothing about updated covers...so I told him(since i learned it here on TY) and he pushed me off....saying it might be my fault since i put a new track on from new.
so i called 800 number, and sure enough, dealer called me back a week later, telling me my new UPDATED cover was in,and a new gasket,....so i should come pick it up..lol.
for anyone whos new to yammie...dont let ANY dealer be your last resort...some dealers are good, and some not so good...always always call the 800 number, start the procedure, even if you are OUT of warrantee....state your case.
I can tell you, from my several experiences with customer service USA...that yammie has come thru for me BIGTIME on more then one occasion.
in this case, its a WELL KNOWN problem with 06/07 covers.....so any dealer telling you different just doesnt know what hes saying,or doesnt want to help....make the call.
Dan
Just got the update chaincase put in and I'm out of warranty. I guess, it really depend how the dealer is doing business with the Yamaha rep.

has anyone gotten the 08' chaincase cover from the dealer under warranty and installed it themselves or does the dealer have to do it, to be covered?

JerseyJoe, how come you believe that Yamaha is in denial about this and won't replace it? Is this what your dealer is telling you?
I have an 06 Apex that had a MAJOR chaincase failure at 2400 miles about a month ago. I was out of warranty. After a little back and forth with Yamaha, they agreed to cover all of the chain case parts plus coolant hoses that were wrecked. Total price for all of the parts was $1900. They would not cover any labor charges, so when the parts came in, I picked them up and did the install myself.
Oh, the cover that I received had an 08 part number.

DEALER DENIAL
MY DEALER FLAT REFUSED TO HELP. SAY HE CALLED YAMAHA AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT YAMAHA HAS NOT HAD A LARGE NUMBER OF PROBLEMS. I WENT ON TO ASK ABOUT THE DRIVE SHAFT BREAKAGE AND W ARM BREAKAGE, AGAIN NEVER HEARD OF ANY PROBLEMS.
I HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE COVER, SHAFT AND W ARM REPLACED.
MINE HAVE NOT FAILED BUT I DON'T WANT THEM TO IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE WHICH IS WHERE I AM HEADED NEXT WEEK

shark,
IF you have a LEAK,yammie will cover it....i got mine and installed it myself...dealer usually makes the call on IF they let you install it yourself or not.
if you have NO LEAK,you will have a real hard time getting the new cover IMO....you can always buy it if you are worried...
just remember, there are ALOT of 06/07 guys who NEVER experience any issues...so you might just be fine if you have no leaks to date.

I have a APEX LTX '08 its not leaking but does it ever get hot when riding it hard and high speeds, I mean HOT you can barely touch it with your hands...anybody else experience this I know my '05 did get hot not as much as my '08.
I read on different occasion on the site that the MAGNESIUM cover ran hotter, but that MUCH!

My 06 Apex GT leaked about 2 ounces in 2 years ,4.000 miles I called Yamaha and I laid it on pretty heavy about all the sleds I bought and all the problems I had with this sled, transfer rod coming apart and ruining my track, electric shock leaking and now the chain case leaking!!!They replaced everything at the end of the season at no charge except the track because it was studded.A good dealer has a lot of pull with YAMAHA REP !!!
