I have an 06 apex mtn in stock form and every ride that I am in good powder my sled runs like crap! I use more fuel than any of the 2 strokers and my engine won't idle. Is there anyone out there that has had this happen and figured out a cure? It seems to be O.K. at full throttle but as soon as you let off of the gas it falls on its face and stalls I have not gotten any codes off of the computer and my tors is disconnected. Also my airbox is wet and I carry 2 foams for the airbox and swap them which helps momentarily but it returns after 10 minutes of riding it works like crap again. I know that I am sucking in snow but has any one found a good cure? I love this sled but I can't just nurse it through every ride or it will go down the road for something else. Please let me know if you have heard of anything that may help!!
Thanks in advance

Cool! I'll check tonight for your answer, I hope it isn't "add a turbo" that's what my dealer told me!! I don't want to spend 9500 canadian to set mine up.

I got a few mintues so I can post it now.
You are getting snow/water in your air box (as you know). Here is the fix.
You need to get your hood sealed up better to the side panels. Go to the hardware and get some foam tape. 1" wide and a 1/4-3/8" thick. put one piece under the plastic hook up front on your hood. This will make it fit tighter on the aluminum bar where it hooks. Then you need to put a piece down both sides of the underside of the hood where it seals against the side panels. I had to use two layers on the sides. Make it seal real good all the way down both sides and up front.
This will keep the snow out. AND, you dont even need to run that foam filter. We have been taking those out since 2003. Just leave the plastic shelf with the screen in there. Once you get that hood sealed off you wont miss a beat in the deep POW!! Eric

He's right, and also!
You also need to put foam filters over the slanted inlet screens on the top of the hood (or block them off!). They take on more snow and ice up the under side of your engine compartment real fast, which leads to h20 in the air stream, and iced up steering componenets as well (and added weight). Get the snow out of the engine compartment and you'll notice the difference.

Thanks for the great replies I have put in the weatherstripping as you instructed as well as I pulled out my hood vents and covered them with some polyester cloth that looks and works like an outerwear you see on other sleds or atv filters to keep crap out. I am also wonderring is it alright to leave the side panel vents open over the oil tank and the primary clutch? and there are holes between the side panels and the hood on the sides that get snow in them do I leave them alone too?
Just noticed these as I was sealing up the front end.
P.S. I did notice my steering getting tighter and I had a big block of ice in the nose of my sled from all the snow build up.
Thanks Again,
Clint

On my sled the side vents and those holes are fine to leave open. I gave it a good test yesterday and pounded over the hood powder for about 15 miles and all worked perfect. Eric

One more thing, I haven't pulled the foamy out of my airbox yet because I was worried that when I ride on the prairies in hay fields and ditches I was worried I would get grass seeds and bits of straw in my intake, have you found this or is it no big deal?
Thanks
Clint

I still have the plastic piece with the screen in it installed. I fastened it permentally to the lower part of the air box. Its held in with screws and sealed with silicone. This will keep out any grass or seeds.
Removing that foam helps airflow alot. Eric

your tps sensor is gone....mine did exactly what you said....runs fine wicked but at idle it thinks its wicked so it pours the fuel in....run it by your dealer and tell them to check the tps settings in the gauge pod.

Re: tps sensor
I have run my machine here on the prairies since my last mountain trip and it runs fine now. I don't think my tps sensor is acting up (yet) because as soon as I get all the moisture out of the air box my engine idles correctly and runs fine. I'll look into it though if it continues!!
thanks for the help.

'06 apexs had some issues with TPS and its seal. The seal will let some water into the TPS and it will give wacky readings. Once water evaperates, TPS will work fine untill water works its way back in durring the next ride. TPS is also part of the TORS system.
Check your TPS values through the diagnostics next time it happens. Normal is 14 - 19 closed and 95 - 100 wide open. This was a 90 code last year in the us.
