Does shimming the ski's cause the rear of the carbides to wear quicker than the front?

I know for a fact that it does. What was really funny Mighty was that Val Simmons owner of Simmons skis redesigned his new carbides to have a progressive rise throughout the length of the carbide. I had more wear in the rear of my carbides when Danny Harris (Indy) sent me some shims to put in my skis. After that I noticed a HUGE wear tendency to just erode the rear of my carbides. This was Simmons skis but I had 4 - 6" carbides on there imagine it with only 2 carbides!!! :exc:

LOL well there's two totally different opinions i have stock ski's on one and Simmons on the other both wear fairly even wonder if it's related to rider weight i'm an ultra light ;)!

Hey little buddy, your a twiggy. :tg:

If I'm not mistaken the bars should wear evenly if shimmed correctly. With my skis I tried several sizes of shims until the skis sat nearly parallel with the ground with just a slight tilt towards the back. My bars wore very evenly with a 3/16+/- shim and I started out with 5/16+/-, then belt sanded the shim until I reach the correct thickness. This little trick is so simple and made a huge difference with regards to darting.

I've shimmed several Yamahas with STOCK skis. Without shims - the front always wears out to quickly. With shims they wear very evenly. They have also worked well on my Fathers Polaris. Simmons skis may or may not be different.

It has always worked so well that it's the fist thing I do to any Yamaha.

;)!

Allright so I am a FATASS!!!!!

I actually just shimmed mine last night. I took a look at my carbides and I was getting more like an 80 Front 20 Rear wear rate. It was pretty bad. Now it looks as if I will wear more evenly.

Don't just look at the carbides....look at the entire wear bar as well. It might be too early for alot of you guys on 06's to notice but if it's darty chances are the fronts of the carbides are doing most of the work.
