I am sending my sled to Ulmer and decided to go with uship.com. I picked a group that was only $20 more then the cheapest just cause of their rating and experience. I used uships Safepay method. Is there anything I should look for or anything different then a normal cartage service? I use regular trucking companies a lot like yellow freight, but never a service like this. I figured it was $425 cheaper then a regular semi partial load and the had insurance so why not try it. Any experiences bad or good? They pick up the end of next week. Thanks for the help guys ;)!

I've used them before for everything from engines and parts to complete cars. It's basically an open "board" that shipping companies can use to fill spaces on existing loads, or smaller companies to market and sell their services, in an open bid manner. I've had good luck with the site, but I'd also guess you're at the mercy of the carriers bid you choose.
They did shut the site down for a while a few years ago when fuel was extremely high, but it's nice to see it open again. From what I can remember, all the companies that bid on loads have to meet criteria for safety and insurance, as well as reliability too.
Let us know how your experience goes, I'm sure it'd be a valuable service to other sledders once fall comes..!

I used Uship to transport a boat from WA to MN once. I got lucky and found a bidder who was willing to make the trip for $850. He was already getting paid to dead-head a 5th-wheel trailer from WI to Vancouver, BC and my little boat transport was probably just going to pay his fuel costs for the trip ... but ended up being a good deal for me. Uship took $35 in the process. My only complaint was that the boat was pulled on its own trailer and ended up with some minor rock chips in the gelcoat (even though the boat was shrink-wrapped and he had a rock guard/skirt on his truck. That's my one and only experience ... for what it's worth.

We shipped a dock to Alaska on Uship and it was a great experience. Uship themselves dont do anything but the carrier was a private hauler and featured on Ice Road truckers, pretty cool!

So what you getting done at ulmer?

A 180 kit I picked up earlier this year from a dealer in Wyoming, ulmers clutch, extroverts etc. I put a list of the new sled items in the garage forum section

We can take your sled when we go to Haydays. We have 2 4 place enclosed trailers going.

That is a very cool offer, but the delivery company will be here early next week and Allen will bring it to the Milwaukee show for me to pickup in October

I used U Ship this spring to deliver a sled from Wisconsin to Bangor Maine. [Cost $ 700. ]

The whole process was a bit of a struggle but well worth it in the end. First guy bailed on me at the last minute. Second guy, and independant from Vermont with an enclosed car trailer was excellent.

You have to spend some time checking out their feedback in detail. If they have been around awhile with 15 or more positive feedback you are likely good to go.

I would definately do it again. [ They e-mailed me a copy of their insurance.]

I think we should have a place on the site to recommend good transporters. The guy I got in the end was awesome and I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

I had a good experience shipping a sled from WA to MI. UShip strikes me as a "wild west" operation (and by definition I think it is - basically an ebay for shippers). Forearmed is forewarned. I was somewhat nervous when I first waved goodbye to my machine, but after frequent updates along the way from my shipper, I felt more confident. In the end, the sled was delivered on time and without damage. I think the key is to look for good feedback ratings from other users. My guy had good feedback, but not a lot of feedback, as he was new to the program.

I had a very bad experience and good experineces with uship. One Carrier jerked me around for 3 weeks saying he was going to pick up my sled and never did. He then canceled my job after a month of waiting. Man was I pissed. But I shipped a RZR before with them and it worked out great. Its all in the carrier. Do your homework.
