That 1200 is over-built, I bet it could see a turbo. If not a turbo, it should be able to breath at a higher rev... 150-200 horses?
BRP is bound to drop the bomb soon. They have the most sophisticated 600 & 800 2-strokes, so a high output 4 is not out of the question.
I agree... The lack of throttle reponse is because of the single throttle body, once they put on a tripple throttle bodies, this motor will come alive and it has alot of room for improvement. With eas, it will get to 150-160hp, with a simple exhaust change, throttle body and with some ECU mapping changes, this sled will run. The person I talk to has direct ties with DOO engineering and they say this sled is already prototyped and ready to roll. Aftermarket Sponcers of DOO-talk are already claiming a 9-10hp increase with just a header change to the current 1200. I have talked to many people that have said the 1200 is only 3 sled lengths back from the Apex up top. That's not much of a lead for the Apex and is very attainable for the 1200.
Even if Yamaha has a new 165hp sled waiting. I doubdt it will be enough if DOO makes a 1200 H.O that produces 150-160hp. With the light weight of the DOO, combined with the great handling, this sled will be the one to dethone Yamaha's 4 stroke. Even if it is close to the reliability of the Yamaha, it could be a clear winner.
I also think both OEM's had the chance to trump each other, but did not want to take the leap of faith, obviously because of the economy, but like I said before DOO won't wait as long as Yamaha and you may just see a new 4 stroke king.
BRP is huge, with thier R&D I bet they have a 180 horse units right now. Running tests of course, that Z1 has raised the bar for all out muscle. Remember the Mach line of sleds... Muscle is a segment, that has sold in the past... why wouldn't it sell now?
Luckily for us, the Apex will always be sexier than anything BRP puts out.

The total sales for the big HP sleds are less then 5%. It seems like that all I see but maybe I'm looking for them....

at least with the 1200 doo its a 4 stroke apples to apples comparison. yamaha is 1000cc motor at 150hp. doo is 1170cc at 135hp. doo had 6 years to look at yamaha 4 strokes and build one better. they needed more displacement and came up with less power. sure you can say they could add this and that and make this much power, but so can yamaha. read up on the new r1 yamaha bike engine to see what the company is capable of, then find something comparable from doo. yamaha is capable off blowing the other 3 out of the water with hp, but snowmobiles are just a small fraction of yamaha corporation, unlike brp that is 100% a recreation toys company.
i don't mind the weight of my apex,i feel stuck to the trail or lake. my buddys rev feels light on its "feet",on a ruff lake you get bounce't around,i don't like that feeling, sorry!

Not to say that they can't, but they won't make the big hp. That's not them, they only make what they need to be competetive. When DOO built the REV, they revolutionzied the sdnowmobile. There is no reason why Yamaha can't do the same with their engines.
Also, when BRP was apart of Bombardier, they were pretty big as well...

Sure Yamaha has the bike engine tech but has not trickled down to snomo biz in 2010. Yam 2010 BNGs are nice too but guys looking for a new ride can get it from Doo not from Yam same old, same old. Nowhere to move up within Yam & ripe for Apex upgrade. Don't know how much AC has picked up from Yam with turbo. The turbo twin did not apeal to me. A 3 or 4 holer turbo would get my attention. Doos handle well, have large gas tank & many different shock packages to consider. Renegade X package not feather lite but lite enough over Apex GT LTX to consider as competitive contender bang for buck. Doo 4tek can no longer be ingnored.

I don't know where all this talk about the lack of throttle response is coming from. My 1200 has instant throttle response yet you can feather it in very slowly if wanted. My Apex takes way more throttle to get it moving and the Nytro is very jumpy with no chance of feathering the throttle, it either won't move or it surges.
