apex starter

hi , i recentyl got sled out to move, started was slipping , sounded bad, replaced with a used yamaha one problem fixed, i took apart the old one to find nothing really wrong with it,no damage, lots of brush material left, only thing i can figure is where the shaft goes through armature, i tapped out with a punch wasnt really that hard, im thinking it supposed be more somid attached to it? just wondering if anyone has rebuilt these, i would repair this one to keep as a spare
