Ok guys here it is: Have been riding a 2007 Apex RTX studded 121" with pilot 5.7 skis. I ride hard and get around 11 mpg. Usually a short day is 140 miles and a good day we do 300+ up in northern Maine. Love the sled comfort and POWER. Considering a 2011-2012 nytro xtx. Does anyone have a nytro who used to be on an apex?? Im worried about comfort, gas mileage (in mpg's please) and overall differences, since i havent been able to get to ride one I need real world opinions from those of you who have ridden both. Thanks in advance.

if you just do trail riding you may not like the nytro. They can be a bit tuff to handle when trail riding. My dad had an attak and now has a 12 Apex se and both are hands down better trail sleds. my nytro is better in deeper snow and when it gets really bumpy tho.... good luck with the decision either way you win cuz they are yamahas...

Here is my 2 cents. I rode both when I was up in Maine for a week. The Apex is a sit down cruiser with a lot of power and top end and very comfortable. The Nytro has a different seating position, quick, not fast and comfortable as well. I would say if you mostly stay under 80 and like the riding position of the Nytro, you will be happy. Having ridden both, I like the Nytro from my needs.

I agree. I have an 08 nytro and my dad has an 06 apex, both 121 and it all depends on your style. I like to stand up and go off trailing at any moment and the Nytro is great for that. The apex is more of a trail sled and harder to handle if you ride aggresively. I get consistant 15 mpg and I am on it hard all the time. Hope this helps.Boston RX1 said:Here is my 2 cents. I only trail ride my Nytro xtx, and I love it for the higher sitting position and knee angle. I have a bad back and I have even noticed less fatigue on my back from sitting more upright with my knees bent less. Also I love the torque from the nytro in the trails, more fun than the apex imo. The nytro may not be as fast as the apex, but who goes 100+mph through trails! I sure don't haha!
I rode a friends apex last trip we were on for a few km, and I personally feel the apex is like my old srx feel..very low to the ground and knees at that bent awkward angle. Just go to your dealer and ask to sit on a nytro and turn the bars...you will know if you like it right away!

Thanks for the replys so far. Even though the apex is faster it is not a big deal, I rarely go 108 mph so the top end is not an issue. I spend 98% of the time on trails. The apex with the pilot 5.7 handles great even through corners at 60mph. I don't want to give up power but i'm sick of getting 11mpg when my friend on his 2012 800 e-tec XRS keeps up and he is getting 19mpg while riding just as hard. I fill 4.2 gallons and he goes 1.9 gallons for the same 45 miles.... frustrating..... I can always go aftermarket skis to improve handling.... sitting on a nytro at the dealer isnt the same as riding for 50miles....

I had an Attak for only about 4 weeks (my dad passed it down to me when he got a new sled). Now I have a Nytro 121, also inherited, lucky me. I do 90% trail riding and about 10% off trail. Even for trail riding, the Nytro is a much better machine, unless you ride in Quebec where the trails are super wide, fast and smooth. In the bumps you can feel just how much lighter the Nytro is and how much better the suspension & seating position are. You will miss the top end speed and the awesome sound...that's about it. As for fuel mileage, I haven't calculated exact MPG, but miles per tank is actually very similar even with the smaller tank. I would highly suggest a trail tank since there aren't many fuel stops in northern Maine.

i agree with all posted. ran my apex gt for couple seasons. ended up in the woods not making tight corners when trying to run hard. bout a nytro xtx, third season. 6k mi on it now. all trail miles. not as cozy as my apex, but handles way way better for hard riding and the long track makes a smooth ride. still have the apex. wife rides it , I get bored on it. both get 15.5mpg most of the time. have seen near 20 under perfect cond with nytro, very rare. if your concerned with milage, you will have to switch brands unless something new comes out. had a cfr800 get 21 to my 15 last trip. he was 100 lighter and 30 more horse. the hungry 2 strokes are a thing of the past. no idea how you are getting 11. pretty sure mine would get atleast 14 spinning against a brick wall

You will miss the power, especially mid and top end thus the reason I went with a turbo. If you don't mind spending a couple extra bucks, it's well worth it.

Had an apex and now a nytro. they are like a standard wrench and a metric wrench both things you need in the garage lol They do well for what they were ment to do. fwiw

Im in the same boat. Leaning twoards the nytro xtx. Seems like a good all around choice. Just like the add's. Ride the trails like a 121 but off trails like a 144. Dont need the extra power, i have ridden one and they seem plenty fast enough for my riding style. Plus they are a bit lighter. I can pick up a nytro front and back. Could hardly get the apex up in the nose.

We had an Attak at the farm, and I now have a Nytro. If I was a pure trail rider I would be on an Apex. There are a lot of guys on here that spend a lot of money on Nytros to try to make them handle like an Apex. My opinion is Apex for groomed trail, Nytro for ditches, backcountry and rough stuff. (stand up type riding.) Just my .02

Rode 630 KM (385) miles with 2006 Rage, 2008 Apex LTX, 2009 Nytro XTX, My 2010 Nytro XTX and a 2012 Apex XTX this past weekend, in that distance all 5 machines averaged about 18 MPG (Imperial) thats about 15 to you and we were riding as hard as trail coditions would allow with a fair bit of off trail playing in the snow so your not going to get any better on fuel from the Nytro.
PS. if any 2 smoke is getting better fuel mileage something is wrong

Back to your original question, I like the seating position on the Nytro (tired old knees been riding 43 years)

I have both a 07 apex and 11 nytro:
The apex has more mid-range to topend speed. The nytro
can pull the apex till about 75.
When it gets bumpy the nytro is better. The 7 gallon tank on the nytro -
not a fan of.
