does anyone have or know how the apex motor compares in the torque specs to the new ski-doo 4-tec ?
Also -how does the apex reduction gear affect these numbers ??

The gear reduction does increase the torque, so if you read the torque values for the motor they'll seem low. They are however not, and it appears to have enough. Not sure on the exact numbers but I know this has been talked about on here a ton. Do a search for Apex and Torque should have everything you need.

The new ski-doo 4 tec has not gotten any praise in the mags, most info I have read leads me to believe that this sled is aimed at the trail cruiser market. Being that its a new motor and a new chassis and is not get much praise or attention pretty much sums it up to be a slug in my opinion. I don't think the Doo with have anything for a Nytro let alone a Apex.

I rode the new Doo 4 tech for about 50 miles last Feb and I would never call it a slug. I own an Apex and FX Nytro and after riding the new Doo I ordered one. I was very impressed with the 4 tech and I don't give a damn what the mags say. I thought the new Doo pulled every bit as hard as My Apex and across a very long feild it pulled the same top speed. I will be able to do some side by side comparrisons this Winter since I own all three sleds. Before you jump to any conclusions I would suggest you try one before you call it a slug.

It looks like a great package in a Renagade. They make nice sleds. Ours our too.

yes...it seems to be refined and european with a linear torque...more mid to top...

however, this motor is still unproven...when someone racks up 10,000 miles on one..I'll believe in it..

Exactly... Time will tell. Samething for the new Z1 turbo, the Z1 engine has been doing great. Let see what +50 hp will do and don't forget that people will boost PSI to 200+hp, then will see how goodthey are.

Think about it, Doo went from 1000 to 1200 cc to be competitive with the Yami's, I would be shocked if it was not competitve, if not they would have worked on it more.

I agree with many the Doo's are nice sleds, my name on here show's I came from Doo through Poo to yamaha (silly I know) Interesting in the 70's to 90 I was die hard CAT. THey are all pretty good now, I prefer four stroke so I ride yamaha now.

I heard Doo did some different ECU mappinf from the Proto's to Production. So maybe they changed the timing fuel curves to give it a boost. I have heard of good gains from it already, like 15-20hp with just an exhaust change. Should be an interesting year... If Yamaha does not come out with a bigger gun then the Apex, then I can't see me being on a Yamaha much more than another season or 2. My warranty is up in Nov of 2010 and it will be gone before the time comes. So we will see what Yamaha has up their sleeves.

No thanks, I'll stick with my yami. Owned enough doo's over the years and I will gladly stick with my rice burner. Enjoy your new doo.

Like the old saying goes "there's no replacement for displacement" I think the displacement advantage alone should be enough to make the doo competitive. If it holds together this should be a formidable opponent.

After 2300 + trail miles last season on a MCXed Nytro, the 3 cyl did not ever skip a beat. This thing is bulletproof. Lets just say I will not be switching over any time soon.
