You know iv always wondered why sleds dont have twist throttles. No more sore or cold thumbs ever again. I grew up on dirtbikes and love the control a twist throttle gives. I saw a vid on utube the other day about a apex in the mountains and low and behold.....a twist throttle. Does anyone know a manufacturer that sells them? But yheyve got to be heated.....or at least retrofitable with heat. Anyone?

Probably custom. I bet one of the twist grip kits for an ATV might work and then just buy heated grips like hotgrips.

there is a product called a thumb drive that is like a twist throttle. you use the meat of your thumb muscle in your hand to work the throttle. may want to look into that.

NCI who built the Thumb Drive have seemed to drop from the face of the earth. I have their product sitting a drawer here at home. Works well except for the lack of heat. Froze my thumb twice. Once with the original design and once with the updated design. As much as I liked the position and ease of of use I couldn't take the pain of a frozen thumb. Also if you like to stand the Thumb Drive is challenging to use.

A twist throttle on a snowmobile gives more control over both the throttle and the sled, there is no downside to it whatsoever.

I think when you are hanging off the sides it might be more, difficult but not impossible to use.

Wrong. A twist throttle allows a much more flexible variety of riding positions, you can grab it from any angle at any time. Maybe if you just stand straight up on the sled all the time it doesn't matter much but if you actively move around a thumb flipper is a handicap.

I agree could be ackward to use in corners, especially if it slips in your hand and returns to idle position then have to grab grip again and twist, would likely suck!

Highspeed you might like your twisted t's to much!

I think the problem would be in turning in heavy deep snow turning might effect the throttle when you pull hard to the right you might crank the throttle giving you less control . That is my theory at least .

Moto Cross racers don't seem to have issues with a twist throttle in the whoops and corners. Having a hard time understanding some of these theories.

A motocross bike leans with you in the turns--you're not really turning the handlebars as much as on a sled. I'm not sure I would want a twist throttle when I'm hanging off the side with the bars turned all the way-

There are likely more guys running twist throttles than you would think, I know 2 guys in my area running a them and love using them, I've driven there sleds and hated it just for the slippage I mentioned in an earlier post. I found its not like a Moto cross bike where you can hold your throttle in one position mostly and use clutch and gearing to control the power to your wheel. On a sled you have to adjust your hand for speed you want to drive and I just couldn't get use it. But ya twist throttles do work on sleds and there out there already being used by guys
