I was looking under the hool in the front of my apex, and when i pulled the travel bag out and looked at my upper A arm bolts. one bolt head was tight against the frame, the other bolt had a space between the bolt head and the frame, maybe the width of a quarter. can you guys check your apex's to see if you have the space ? does this bolt slide/float fowards/backwards.
just so we are on the same page...this bolt slides through the frame, then through the upper A arm, and through the frame and bolts up under the airbox

I pretty sure there's a shoulder on the bolt so when the nut is tightened you have some play. The bolt act like a pin for the A arms and there's no need for it to be tight against the bulk heads and hinder the pivot action of the front suspension.

Check your bushing's in the front end... jack up the front and see how much "play" is in your front end. this is what i noticed on mine and now am replacing all bushings...because they were gone... to dust!!! bulkhead bushings were the worst. there should not be alot of play in your bolts. when tightened they should be snug... but Kaz is right.. nut end of bolts have a shoulder that the washer/nut will bottom out on. but bushing "coller" will take up most of this play you are seeing. Just my 2 cents as i'm right in the middle of this rebuild. just got the rest fo my parts last night... starting reasembly tonight.
Like Kaz said, the bolts are just a pin. Do your sled a favor and install the Oilites. Snugs the front end right up and self lubes. I was a skeptic of this until I saw the bushings oozing oil as I installed them. Not in any way tied to Ulmer, just a good product. Wish I could get them for the Mono, hint hint.

I put in the bushing kit and it does tighten up the front end, however you will have some play on those upper bolts.
the play you are describing is normal

Grind down the blocks on the steering post (3-sets) and it's a huge different...along with the Oilite busing kit.
No other sled has that 'normal' play.

The normal play being discussed is in the a arm mounting bolts. A fore and aft movement.
In regards to the steering play, that is not normal. I pulled my blocks to see if sanding them down would be effective and decided against it. All your doing is oblonging the holes where the shafts come through. The only fix worth your time is the machined blocks with the oilites.
