Question

I am about 290 and have the heavier spring from Yamaha installed. I have turned it up to second to highest setting and turned the dial to max and I still bottom on 2 to 3 foot moguls. Do I need to get a stronger spring??? Is it ok for the skid to bottom out?

Thanks

get your c clip moved on the rear shock one position. night and day difference

Ok call me stupid but what is the C clip? I have moved the preload that tightens the spring to the second highest setting.

This C clip is it hard to adjust?

Thanks!!!

There is three clip positions on the shock body spaced about 1/2 apart, changing the position will enable you to put more preload on the spring. To change the position you have to compress the spring with a spring compressor, its a pain to do in the skid but can be done.

take your shock out and take it to yamaha dealer and have them put it on the 3rd clip. i have mine on the 3rd clip but don't have the heavy spring wish i did though i'm 215 and the sleds bottoms out to easy i think

revalve of compression stroke on shock helps ... i am 325 and have big boy spring on 2nd clip setting and 2 down from full preload..shock was revalved by shock therapy in durand mi. ... it will bottom on large moguls if i dont stand up..... the trick i have found to work best is juicing the throttle as you launch off the moguls..... if you keep power to the track and keep the front up it seems to lessen the bottoming..... basically if you treat each large mogul as a jump it goes much smoother and give you that break you need between standing.....

its as stiff as is comfortable for me and as long as you stand up for the nastiest bumps you are fine.....

I think us big boys bottom more because its harder for us to stand up all the time more than the suspension not doing its job.... my little buddies all stand up for the big bumps on their revs.... they'll bottom too.....

strange thing is my sled wont bottom coming down from a few feet of air..... it seems to like the occasional jump more than the mogul pounding.. i have found my suspension gets pretty soft at the tail end of a series of nasties and then stiffens up again once the shock cools back down......

Talking about how can I make the adjustment without removing the shock... My sled is stored out in an enclosed trailer and its a bitch to work on IE pulling a shock would be a major undertaking... If I could put a spring compressor on it and make the adjustment in place it would be better..

Thanks

the shock is very easy to remove... two bolts and take the ra cable off and its out.... you just have to play with the height of the suspension a bit and take the weight off the limiter straps to slide the bolts out.....

a two by four under the front of the track and a small hoist on back bumper works wonders.... adjust height of back bumper until the bolts slide out and then leave it there until you put them back in.....

I think thats what you meant....

Once you have it out... the dealer will change the circlip for you or have it done when you get it revalved if you are doing that..... I never tried circlip position 3 because i heard it can coil bind.... but that may be incorrect as several guys seem to run it.....

You are almost my weight so i would try the 2nd position and big boy on two notches from full preload.... you should be fine..... just make sure you stand up on the big swallows..... or pay the price of a teeth grinding bottom..... ;)!
