My new Attack is sweet!! I found just about every condition of snow on this trip to test it out. I was able to put 480 miles on it. I do need to make some adjustments though. The only thing I changed so far before going on this trip is I put Yamaha mountain skis on.
Acceleration is fantastic, hold on tight. The engine braking took a little to get used to. After I got use to it, I rarely used the brakes at all. Having a 2k SRX before this to compare to may not be fair, but that's all I have. The hot grips were terrible. After about 15 minutes of steady riding they warmed up, not hot, warm. My SRX, you had to turn them off by now.
Starting out, the trails we were on had not been touched. No grooming yet but found between 1 and 3 foot of fresh powder to settled snow. The sled went through this with no problem except it pushed a lot of snow. Even with the mountain skis the a-arms filled up with snow and blew over the hood and shield. I am not sure what to do for this yet but would like to figure out something before I go to Wyoming before the end of January.
The rear suspension was great! I found setting the dial to hard was ideal for the deep snow. Toward the end of my trip the trails were getting groomed. The last evening ride the trails were getting washboarded. I set the dial to soft here. The only thing now that told you it was a rough trail is through the action in the handlebars. One time my friend got stuck and I left my sled running while helping and it shut it's self off after 10 - 15 minutes. The harmonics of the exhaust at times were ear piercing. Any suggestions for adjustments would be appreciated.

I'm not sure if you are looking for an answer as to why your sled shut off after 10-15 minutes but it's because it will do that when the sled begins to overheat which is probably what happened while you were helping your buddy.

This is good to know. I did not know what to think when it happened. I used to let the SRX run to thaw it out.2BLUE4U said:I'm not sure if you are looking for an answer as to why your sled shut off after 10-15 minutes but it's because it will do that when the sled begins to overheat which is probably what happened while you were helping your buddy.

snowATTAker, the reason your sled shut off is because Yamaha built a feature into all the 4 stroke sleds to shut them off after 3 min. What happens is after the temp light comes on a time is started, if during this time the throttle is not pushed the mach will shut off if the throttle is pushed the timer is restarted.

Hi snowattaker, did ya run it with stock skis first, to get a base line?? If so how do you like the mountains?? As i have a set on order and would like someone to let me know how they go.
My attak has 203 miles on it and it pushes preety bad at times to and i took almost all the transfer out so i could get it thru the trails, and the mountain skis sounded good for both groomed trails and off trail riding... ![Bling :bling :bling](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/bling.gif)

I did not try the stock skis first. I always thought with the weight of my SRX it needed wider skis, so with the weight of the Attak it had to help. I thought the skis stayed up good. My buddy is going to order a set for his Warrior after riding mine. I am wondering though if I had adjusted for more transfer if that would have eliminated some of the pushing in the powder.

They look like the stock skis with another inch wraped around the entire ski. On a groomed trail the extra width does not touch the snow. It is raised up some.

Were you on any trails that are typical for darting(trails that were set-up with grooves). How was the darting if any and are the skis shimmed?

The first few days they had not started grooming at all. just about all powder. the last 2 days they started rolling and it had not setup hard yet. I did find that the soft pack was somewhat hard for me to stear do to the full length of the track sinking in the soft pack.

Did you shim the skis.

No, not yet. I will wait and see on some hard pack frozen groomed trails. You think Yamaha ought to by me some shims? My 2k SRX did not need them.

Bergstrom give them and the ski-savers to ya when you order new carbides-which hopefully are on their way.
