I tried searching but did not find anything on this topic. Anybody have very hard or stiff steering on their '07 Attak? Mine was super last year and cornered like it was on rails. This year after the first ride I can hardly turn it!!!!!!!!!! Seems like the shafts are dry and I see no place to lube them. Any ideas for a fix? Looks like I would have to remove a lot of pieces to get the steering components out and cleanup and lube if that is what it is. I must say it looks like Yamaha builds a very high quality sled, but to wok on them is not the easiest I have ever seen lots of brackets and things are really packed in there. Oh, sled only has 3000 miles.

Have you greased your spindles yet?

Spindles are all greased and they are free and move easily. It appears the top mounting point of the horizontal shaft behind the brake rotor what is sticky. Looks like there is a white plastic bushing there, but no way to lube it!

There is alot of info in the FAQ section at the top of the Apex/Attak page. Go through it sometime, valuble info!
Here you go. Hope this helps. redsled1 has a neat fix without replacing.

steering
cannonman all my apexs did the same, had to pull apart the plastic bushings wipe out the dryed grease. I put antisize grease steers like new again. its a pain belive there are 4 bushings 2 on the steering post and 2 on the side post well worth the trouble. the 2 piviots in the front on mine were ok. Did the same to my apex this year, but put in all new bushings, front end and rear susp, lubed bushings that did not have zerts with Weltmeister plastic bushing lube. Have about three full days of cold weather off pack riding on the sled and it seems to work great. My white bushing was dry enough that it was binding and popping when turned. Sled has 8700 miles

Silly question but did you make any changes to your sled since riding last season like adjusting limiter strap or adding new carbides? The steering on my 07 Attak is very light and the only time I have heard of people having a hard steering issue is after they installed C&A Razor skis, pulled the limiter strap up too much, or put on more carbide than they needed.

MINE WAS TOO. I think the break heat gets to the horizontal bushing and dries it out..
