I'm finally convinced I have to change the Mono skid in my '06 Attak. After getting new: rail, W-arms (front & back), transfer rod, shock (w/big boy spring), and limiter strap, I just noticed that both rails, up front, are bent to the right.
Anywho, I don't really want to spend a ton on a new suspension right now so I was thinking of putting one from another model in mine. The most appealing option so far is an '07 RTX that I would have to stretch to 136", or there's a couple Polaris Xtra-10 suspensions locally.
The RTX would be an easier install but will it hold up any better than the Mono? I don't have any groomed trails to ride on so everything is backcountry, rough trail, or fairly smooth rivers.

Well bashley.... i have both, an 07 RTX and 08 40th LTX... and i've completely destroyed my rtx skid in 9000 miles... actually have rebuilt a few time, just this last one,,,, all new bushings, shocks done, new front arm (they break to pieces too...) if i was going to do it i sure would not put another skid in unless you got your pro action for a song and a dance... if you get the beef up kit installed(or newer W-arms) i truly think the mono skid is a tuffer better all round skid. I'm not a big guy, 5'10" 170 lbs no gear, and drive very aggressive hard trail and my rtx sure didnt live up to its name. now witht he new shocks comming from shocktec and everything new again... i'm sure i'll notice a difference.
IMO.... try the xtra-10... they are heavier in the chassy but seem to be lasting better.. a bit more endurance. just my 2 cents...
cheers

bashley, What you have arrived at is where I was 2 seasons ago. I have destroyed every stock Yamaha skid I've owned. Just knew it was a matter of time before I was going to be in the same boat with my Attak. LOT'S of different opinions about durability of skid's here. But, IMHO, the most durable skid on the market is the ExpertX. I am currently running a 136 setback for 144, and am sending the shocks out for rebuild and revalve. With this setup, I have no worries about durablity. Angle of approach is excellent, allowing my heavy beast and myself to climb up out of deep snow. With the 1.5 Crossover, it does well ontrail, and very good offtrail. For deeper snow. I'll be running a 2" challenger with 8 tooth drivers. Took a while to find a used 1, but they are out there. I purchased everything except my Hartman extension used, and have around $1,500 in it. Best of luck with your decision. OH, and check out Nikolai's picks for durability testing LOL!!

Thanks for the help guys. I think I'm gonna throw in a couple rails until I can get something new (guess I'll finally get that cracked one welded up).
Expert-X is up on top of the list. Was looking at the ZX-2 as well but still have a few reservations on cracking something. I get caught at -30F or colder quite often and banging around rough trails at that temp can't be good for it.

Pulling my skid out next year and replacing it with M-20 fully loaded with front duo-tek air.the air ride from FAST is unreal!! it floats over everything like a BIG-TRAVEL BAJA TRUCK.it really is impressive.i ride really hard and the stuff from yamaha will not hold up to my abuse.gunna lose some HP going with M-20,but i can add HP too!! talked with MDKUNI about his ZX-2 set-up and he really likes it,but one thing i have noticed is there are no RIGHT-UPS on the ZX-2 or EXPERT-X in any of the 4-BIG snowmobile magazines in the years i have been reading them, there are no ad's either, nor are they at the snow shows? idk need more info ZX-2/EXPERT-X.
