A group of us rode to the Yamafest at the Vikings on Chautauqua Lake yesterday. Rode the trails for awhile until they got pretty muddy & rocky. About 1:00 the first sled headed out on the lake. Next thing you know, there's probably 15 sleds out racing and having a goodtime, trying not to tick off the ice fisherman. I wasn't too keen to ride the lake, so I let a couple friends take my Attak out. One of them had a video phone, and kept it on the speedo - the Attak topped out at 127 on the Dream-o-meter.
Anyway, I finally decided I'd try the lake. After a few runs, I came back in and all my buddies were leaving. My wife & I decided to have something to eat. About then, a trailer pulls in & guys unload their sleds, one being a new Mach Z. Got to talking with the guy, and we decided to take tham on the lake & run them. Did a slow run first to get the Mach warmed up, then we did a rolling start at ~ 15MPH. The Attak & the Mach stayed together to about 50, then he pulled about two sled lengths ahead. At ~ 90, the Mach stopped pulling away, and we ran even until we topped out at 123 on the Attak Dream-o-meter.
We stopped & traded sleds. Ran two more times, same result each time. It seems the Mach has a bit more grunt in the mid range, but the sleds are even at bottom & top ends. Oh yeah, the Mach was reading about 120 on top end, so it appears the 'Doo speedo is as overstated as the Attak speedo.
I would have thought the Mach would have done better on the top end with 20 more HP.
My Attak has 1800 miles, so it's well broken in, and he said the Mach had 4-5 hours on it. Maybe his "Chip" wasn't burned in?
It was warm mid afternoon, probably low 40's, and I didn't have any overheating or hyfax problems on the lake.
