I recently purchased a 06 RTX rode about 800 miles on it before I put it away. My last Yamaha was a ET 250 . I am comming off a 03.5 REV 800 BM . I was looking at a Mach z 1000 or the Apex. Decided to go with the Apex . I hope I made the right choice. I find it a liitle heavy and I am experincing some front end darting and some inside ski lift. Would like to here from some of the guys who had Mach z `s 1000 and why they changed . How does the Mach ride and handle compared to your Apex and are you happy with the apex performance ( top end etc) Also if any body can give me some set up tips would be greatly appreciated .

A friend of mine has an 05 Mach Z and also picked up an 06 RTX ER this season.

At first he was disappointed with the RTX, finding it too tippy, too much inside ski lift and somewhat unstable.

He played with the settings and in the end found he liked the RTX at least as much as the Mach Z (even though it is definitely slower on the straightaways. The RTX is 100% stock).

He ended up with the limiter strap tightened all the way, the front shock pressure dropped to somewhere around 45 psi (he was running 95 psi at first and tried lots of different settings), and he might have reduced the weight transfer adjuster a little.

I should note the actual shock pressure I'm not sure about since we were actually adjusting it with the load still on the skis (actual pressure was 75 with the weight on it, but the pressure varies so much with weight - 45 unloaded is a guess).

The last ride we went on his final comments were "wicked ride, wicked sled".

He's been racing bikes for years and we both like to ride our sleds fast, especially on the tight twisty trails.

Next season he's thinking of adding a 13mm sway bar to keep it even flatter in the corners.

Quite a few members on here came from Rev's, but I am not aware of any coming from a Mach. The Rev owners include the users Reaper and RXWonder.

Here are a couple of good threads on your topic.

machzed came over not too long ago from the mighty mach.

I put 1800 on my 05 Mach. Rear and front shocks were junk. Bottomed out on all shocks and rebound on rear shock would kick me in the butt. Ride quality was poor at best. It would foul plugs just about every time I started it. Would run out of gas with 3 gallon left in tank. Had all udates done last fall and fouled 2 plugs in 2 starts and sold it. Not my first fuel injected sled, I know how to start it. Came off a 04 X model renegade, that I loved ride quality. I was so pissed at BRP about my$10,000 P.O.S. 05 Mach and their inabiltiy to fix engine I switched brands.

On smooth trails it will out corner my RTX. (lower front end)
RTX darts more and I got used to inside ski lift. Overall ride quality is much better than Mach. 1500 miles not problems except hand warmers and leaky grease fittings. Steering effort is about the same. A little slower in top end. But I love the 4 stroke engine and will not buy a 2 stroke again. I made the right decision with YAMAHA!

skmon brought up some good points. My friend with both the Mach Z and the RTX also has had trouble early on with fouling plugs on the Mach as well as finds the ride more comfortable on the RTX.

You made the right choice, but really the Mach Z is a decent sled too. Other than the fouling plugs it's not far behind overall and it is faster (if that's your thing).

Just a quick note re: difference in pressures when the Fox Floats are loaded versus unloaded--- I have a Nytro, and checking the pressure with the front end on the ground adds about 15psi to the reading. Therefore, 75psi loaded would be about 60psi with the front end up. Hope this helps.

There seemed to be more variation with the RTX (maybe the front end is heavier?, maybe the different rear suspension changes the load on the front?).

I noticed when I lifted on the front a bit the pressure would definitely drop below 55 psi and if I carefully set it down it would only get to about 65. If we pushed down the pressure would easily go over 100 psi and then carefully letting go it would end up somewhere between 75 and 85. These are very rough numbers, but it's hard to estimate the unloaded pressure.

One thing we did notice is the setting ended up with the left and right side control arms almost parallel to each other with the rider on the sled. The front end was probably lowered around an inch from stock height.

get a 12mm swaybar from PIONEERPERFORMANCE.NET this will help eliminate the ski lift..

Also think about getting some simons or BRP pilot skis.. (something with dual runners) but not WOODYS DUALIES!

Do you find the 13mm too stiff for the Apex?
