OK, I have a quick question, last time I took my '03 Rx1 out the battery was dead. I had to jump start it all weekend, the battery would not hold a charge at all. The handwarmers never seemed to get hot like they did before. I was really starting to get concerned. I got home and bought a new battery, and charged it for a day and installed it. Instantly the sled started up (I was concerned after reading topics that I searched that my stator might be bad) and has fired up right away every day this week.

So, my question is, is it possible that the reason my hand grips were not really warm was because of the battery being dead? I was wondering if maybe the alternator was just not powerful enough to try and recharge battery and power the warmers...

Oops I lied, my second question, the reason I was really concerned about the stator was because the charger was saying the old battery was fully charged... I took it out and put it on the charger and STILL says full charge. Is the battery just bad now? I don't have a voltmeter handy, but it's really not holding any charge to start the sled.

THanks in advance

:yam:

I think your battery was just bad. I had my battery go dead one day at the beginning of the season and I charged it and it held a charge and didnt give me a problem for 3 weeks but I started and rode the sled at least every 3-4days. My suspension was out for 2 weeks so I haven't started my sled in that long and we had some cold weather and my battery was totally shot. It wouldnt make a sound when I turned the key. I never had a battery go that dead that fast so I was concerned that it was something else but I took my battery to advance auto and had them check it and their machine said it was no good so I bought a new one from them for $81 ($99.95 at napa, $95.99 at my yamaha dealer) and the sled started right up and ran good. I am going on an actual ride today so I will know if there is anything else wrong with it but I think it was just the battery. These batterys do strange things and when mine was bad I could hook the charger up to it and start the sled but the dash was going on and off and flashing warning lights and the check engine light was flashing. now nothing seems to be wrong...

I just replaced my battery in my 03 as well. Even though I had the original battery on a trickle charge when not in use (let it trickle for 1/2 hour every day) I guess they only last sooo long.

The first time one of these little batteries go completly dead, they are dead. Same thing happens in the motorcycle world where it is warm. They just do not recover like a big battery does. I keep mine on a trickle all the time when I know Im not going to be using it for awhile.
