Can someone explain how to go about greasing the jackshaft and driveshaft bearings on the '11 Apex? Do they need to come out, or is there grease fittings? If they need to come out might as well just replace them...thanks.

After removing the obvious parts to expose the bearings with a pic tool remove the bearing seal. Use a needle adapter to grease the bearing. I apply small amount between the balls.
Install the seal and thats about it. If there is alot of rust present or dirt you can use solvent or WD40 to soak the bearing and then blow it clean with compressed air.

What type of grease are you using to repack the bearings?

I've always used regular axle grease, same as I use on my trailer. Be careful using compressed air after the WD 40, you don't want to blow the seal out on the back side.

Sounds much easier than replacing them. I've only changed them a couple times before. ..are they normally rusty or contaminated with water inside?

I found the drive shaft bearing is always the worse of the 2 being closer to the snow. It's fairly easy to replace the driveshaft bearing but the jackshaft is a different story, you have to remove the jackshaft. In 18,000+ miles I'm on my 3rd D-S bearing (preventative) while my jackshaft bearing is original cleaning & re-greasing after every season.

It's right in the sticky above you, under miscellaneous.

Ok thanks a lot guys...

You would be surprised how much contamination can be inside the sealed bearings after one season. I always check/clean/grease mine every year. One year it will be fairly clean and next year it will be really bad. Same goes for all the suspension wheels.

Guess I should have dug around a little more!

How do you re grease the newer style drive shaft bearings? Rocket you may run into this as the newer ones have metal seals. Any one re grease them or just change them?

I have heard that you drill a small hole in them, and put silicone over hole to seal it up.

Good question....haven't even looked at mine yet. I don't know if I'd drill a hole in them and take a chance on damaging a bearing or getting metal shavings in there and not be able to flush them out good.

If you have a nonremovable seal bearing such as a NTN, you could replace it with a removable seal bearing such as a NSK.

I clean & re-pack my jackshaft bearing every year, but i CHANGE the driveshaft bearing EVERY year. It's $19 and takes me exactly 15 minutes to change. The driveshaft bearing is the one that is IN the snow & water ALL the time & every one i change isn't "happy" shall i say...
