Removed the secondary clutch on both of my 03 RX1'S and the bearing that the jackshaft rides on thats in the chassis are both split on the inner sleeve of the bearing next to the shaft. Are they design that way or are they bad? THANKS.

rx1fastervmax4:

I have an 04. My setup is different, unless your's have been updated to the 04 version. The 03's had troubles and were supposed to be updated to the 04 design. That being said, I have the Secondary on mine coming off tomorrow. I'll take a look at mine and post what I see. There is nothing in the Tech Manual about this component other than a figure of the Bearing, which in my manual, does NOT show a split.

I suspect that if both sleds have the same type of split that there is not really a problem. If they look good and feel tight, I would very carefully remove the bearing seals and get some lube in on the bearings and reinstall the seals. If they look or feel bad, I would upgrade them to the 04 design or replace them if they are bad and the 04 design already.

How may miles are on those sleds anyway?

It seems unusual that both would be split like that. I never seen a bearing like that. One has 1400 miles and the other has 2400 miles.

I have 2 03's 3000+ miles on both of them twice a year I pop out the seals on the upper & lower bearing flush them out & repack them with grease never had a bearing problem , the lower bearing is always in need of grease, that upper bearing is strange ,never seen one like it used on ANY machine or shaft in my life ! ;)!

on the 03 rx 1 some of use had trouble with the split coller sliding out. thus takiing out drive belts and other related parts. the 04 and up coller has a nut on the inside to hold it in place. not just a fricton fit. mine would slide in and out at will makeing it kind of hard to find what the problem was :o| and i took me a good 6-8 weeks to get all of the replacement parts needed. i have never had a problem with the 04 parts.

Back to the origonal question. I guess I led us astray.

Black John;

Are you saying the '03's split collar may be the split that rx1fastervmax4 is seeing on his '03s?

clutch

that right len i kind of miss that thanks for reading between the lines. if the bearing race is split as well the seal probaly would not be in place any more and the bearing will have lot,s of slop in the jack shaft and you would beable to remove the sleve with your fingers very readaly.

So, I guess what we are collectively saying is: We think the bearings are O.K. They apparently are the '03 style. He may want to consider replacing them with '04 parts, if he experiences any trouble with them. In the meantime, he may want to add some grease to them to extend their life.

Right guys?

The bearning change can be a bit tricky. You might want to do a search on it here. If you do not have a toolbox full of Yamaha tools, there are a couple makeshift tools you will need.

However, there is adequate description on at least one thread in here that can help you get through it.
